ok, im trying to fig. out why my overdrive wont work. i looked all thru my repair manual and the only thing i can find in the wire diagram that shows a box that labels it o.d. relay. any one here have automatic trany with o.d. that could maybe help me out?
It goes into 1st, 2nd, 3rd but not into overdrive. I know that if you unplug the dummy light by the ashtray it defaults to keeping it on. i tried that but it still wont shift into overdrive. So as of right now i can only go 55/60 mph. What controls when or how it goes into overdrive? Is it the cable that goes from the carb to the trany or some vacuum line or does the speedometer cable have something to do with it or maybe some relay that i cant find???

Its the overdrive solenoid. It happened to e on my 85. I had a broken wire that I needed to solder. It is on the transmission (I cant remember if its the left or right side.
cool hay maybe you can help me out on something else too. Im trying to find out where these wires go and im wondering if one of them has something to do with the o.d.
so if i took all the smog stuff off i prob. don't need to worry about that one, but what about the rest? is one for the ac or other smog stuff????????
i wouldnt know about the a/c part, mine is a base model with no a/c no p/s and i deleted all my smog equipment a while ago.
ok guys i found out that it is the overdrive solenoid that is mounded on the outside of the trany that is bad. when i go to find out how much it cost....it was supper high. $200.00+ so i been doing some research and found out thta volvo uses the same solenoid but with a different connecting end. so im thinking is that i can get one and replace the plug-in with my toyota plug-in. volvo's price is $59.00 i sooo need some advice on this like soon if anyone can help....
True, I'm trying to rack my brain and remember if the ones i saw in my pic-a-part still had the transmissions in them. Thanks for the compliment!
ok guys, i went to pick-n-pull and pulled 4 different solenoids of Volvo's. out of the 4 i picked the 2 best and got them both. total cost 20.00. the one that came off my truck, the rubber housing that hold the wires to the top of the solenoid had broken and cracked to where it just fell apart. Got home and cleaned them up and compared the volvo to the toyota. so the differences between the 2 are end connections, color in wire and one has toyota stamped on it. So i put the toyota end connection on the volvo solenoid and made sure the rubber seals where good. "Stupid squirrels didn't pick up after them self's" Installed the solenoid and the out come was good. it works just fine and dandy, woohoo!!
Last night i replaced the center link, it was in need of replacement for some time. So driving home i was like in all.. My truck was slowly getting to a good stopping point, not done just a good stopping point. Well then i came crashing down..... Last night i had to go help out my daughter cuz her truck needed a jump and when she took off, she nailed the side of my truck........................... "crap" This sucks... I'll take some pics when it gets daylight and post. I hope it's fixable.
