Thanks for the kind words Quite a few hours masking and painting on it Figured why pass up the chance when it was on the engine stand I'm hoping to get more time on the truck soon
Got really lucky on this motor Saw an ad on here for a "222rte" I was like OK? Turns out some newbie on here was posting the motor for a friend Craigslist link... Turns out its in NJ too 8) Guy has $3500 in the motor Full motor shop rebuilt block and a brand new head No miles... And he wants $1500 for a full swap setup with a wiring harness turbo intake etc etc I offer him $1100 for the block and head He not only says ok But gave me the rest of the parts too! Now if I only could find the time...
turbo Lol some people just can't help themselves. As for me I like.Thats gonna be a mean 4x4.Will that be a stock turbo?
Hey Mike, What are your thoughts on paper gaskets vs. RTV only vs. RTV on paper gaskets? I don't see any RTV oozing out anywhere in the pics of your engine, and while I know that the Toyota used paper only on most things, most newer factory parts are RTV only.
I'm kinda on the thin layer of rtv with paper on older motors and blocks . And just high quality gaskets on newer or well machined parts and motors
I know I got a bit carried away with the colors The truck will be black metallic I just thought it would be fun to make the engine "pop" when opening the hood... Especially since its a turbo truck! The block was already gold I just added the colors to the valve cover and made a custom "teq" oil cap The odd colors are that I wanted each component to have its own color Alternator etc... And no it won't be a stock tubo Another lucky deal landed me a guys entire t3/4 setup off his truck All the intake piping and an exhaust manifold with an adapter for the Garrett I don't know how many miles? But I swear it looks like less than 1000... Only bidder on eBay $250! 8) As for gaskets what you see so far is from the engine shop the previous owner used... I do prefer both paper and a thin layer of rtv BTW... Isn't gold the old school Toyota stock block color???
Front view... The engine and cab were just mounted a couple weeks ago... Side note... See the windshield gasket in the pic...? I found out 84-88 trucks down under.. Ie Australia Didn't have that crappy metal trim around the windshield!!! They had just a solid rubber gasket! Took me a while to find an Australian seller who would ship me one But thank god no more freakin metal trim around the windshield falling off and rotting etc!!!
Rear view! The frame was cut shorter about 6 inches I built the fuel cell frame and modified the cell to use the stock fuel pump and fuel level gauge The cab is extended 5" The rims are from a 2008 FJ cruiser Trail Team edition...
