    Hello,
I will be purchasing a Toyota pick up in a few weeks since I will be starting a pool cleaning business and my little Nissan 240(s13) hatch... let's just say it's not up for the job. I will also be rebuilding the engine on it this winter so I need a good daily.

Well enough of that. I am looking for older Toyota trucks. I've always been a fan of vintage Japanese vehicles. The 2000gt being one of them, along witha few Nissans. But like previously stated I will be buying a pick up in the coming weeks and decided to join to get some advise and see what the toyota community is like. so far in my search I found plenty of trucks but the one that I'm considering is a 82 pick up with an sr-5 with rebuilt carburetor, brand new brakes, and the paint doesn't look half as bad. owner says it has 200,060 miles on it. owner wants $2500 for it.Link here

I wanted to heard of peoples experience with this truck, if it's a good buy or which you guys think I should look for.

    thanks.
    Daniel

Hell ya looks pretty good to me bodywise. Just give it a good go around and test drive for sure.

Welcome Daniel! You'll have fun hanging out with us. I've owned my truck for
31 years since it was brand new and it is still a fun truck to drive. Congrats to your upcoming pool cleaning business.

I looked at the link that you posted. The ad claims the truck is an SR5. The truck appears to be a Deluxe or maybe a Standard model. The SR5 trucks have chrome plated cab vent covers, bucket seats and a black grille & black front bumper. Does it have a tach in the instrument cluster & rally gauges near the center console? The only way you can know for sure is look at the VIN. There will be an "S" in the 8th position.

At any rate, the '79-'83 models are the best Toyota trucks made in my opinion. Between the body style and function, it has always scored points with me. I started liking these truck in my Sophomore year in HS and I still get people glancing over at my truck when I'm driving.

    Good luck with this purchase!

    Rick

    thanks for the welcome guys!
@malessohomegrown: I would but it's an hour drive from me so I will look into my options

1982rn34: WOW!!! 31 years sounds like you've had a lot of fun!!! well that is the truck that is the cleanest/more well kept here in LA. I also found this one (link here) but the thing is the suspension. I don't like bags so most likely I will be going back to stock(with a drop) as far the bed I plan to run wood trim, like in old chevy/ford trucks. But I will check it out to see what else it need. what I like about it is the miles.

I love the vintage trucks, like the '79-'83, but also the datsun 620. If I had a little more time I would scoop one up but I need a running one and they tend to go for a bit more than other trucks, from what I've seen. personally I love the '84-'89 trucks. love the detail on the bed(around the top) and the squarish shape that the fenders have. If I can find one of those I would want it like this one, excpet with less aggressive wheels. I would love to run some crown vic mesh wheels

The floor is eaten out but the rest is very good for its age... Just getting a collection of parts for it... I already have a 20,000 Warn for it.. only problem is I will either need to finish my two 46's and the 53 Mainline... or build a bigger garage...
