hello all, i race "street truck" out at firebird raceway here in boise idaho and currently have a small block chevy in it bored .30 over running about 14.5:1 compression and a comp cams xe294 camshaft approx (500hp no dyno numbers yet). were pulling this motor out and building a full race car because of class limitations. so for my "street truck" i was thinking the 1uz. i want to stuff the 1uz into my 90 toyota pickup and get rid of the 800lbs yard weight (350 chevy) that's in it. i want to leave it all motor for street-ablilty and gas mileage with a little bit of power (that's where the nitrous comes in about 100-150 shot) nothing extreme but just enough when i want it. i am curious as to seeing if anyone has some good pictures or build thread that i could study for this swap. i was also wondering if anyone has put nitrous on the 1uz and if so how much with what numbers? thanks Jessie
Dunno no if the 1uz can handle constant 150 dry shots maybe a wet kit .but dunno how long it will hold that ever consider an a 2jz inline six single turbo .make tons of power and have a huge aftermarket support unlike the 1uz in some aspects
I do not run the 1UZ but a 22R Stage 5 Pro-stroker with Nitrous. I have twin Webers with the Nitrous nozzles mounted on the underside of the intake manifold. I run one Mallory electric fuel pump but two Mallory return type fuel pressure regulators. My controls are staged progressive or all on, programable, with an Air / Fuel Ratio controller, Crane Ignition box / Retard controller, etc. My current setup is dialed in at 100 shot but is adjustable up to a 150 shot. I have twin bottles mounted underneath on a custom mount located where the spare tire was mounted. The engine was built by LC Engineering with special pistons / rings for Nitrous use. The motor has been installed for about 5 years with no problems and when you hit the "Juice" it will light up 31" or 33" tires in a hurry.
Jesus you guys, this man is trying to talk about a 1UZ with nitrous. I think if you got any 1UZ and ran the early, thicker rods, you should be fine. If anything, I would say you might as well install Forged rods and pistons to be safe and durable in the long run, saving YOU downtime. Go for it
well i would've liked to use the 22r but mine was cracked that's why i stuffed the 350 in it (very impressive though suncomb1 pics?). as far as the 2jz i honestly have considered it time and time again. i have to get myself away from it because my goal is to go "underdog status" as some people call it. just like at the track i am literally the smallest truck in my class. im almost half the size of the el caminos haha. however i do understand aftermarket availability for the 2jz vs the 1uz but not many people play with the 1uz when you pop the hood and people see the 2jz they know what to expect. i was surprised to see how many people didn't even know that toyota even made a v8... i will be running a wet kit
Very true about 2jz people are use to seeing them if your gonna get a 1uz def get the later version with the six bolt main with a set of arp main studs and head studs and spray a wet kit I've herd few story's of supercharged 1uz lifting the heads . So maybe some quality fasteners would help
Everyone uses a 2JZ, RB26DETT, SBC, SBF, or a LSx swap. Ever wonder why engine technology never grew? Because of that. All 1UZ's came with 6bolt mains. ARP of course.
exactly, i planned to put arp studs in it and a wet kit and a set of headers. from everything that i HAVE found on it the crank and rods are forged but the pistons aren't i cannot verify that, but that's what the guys at lextreme and v-eight say, and same with wikipedia. what i am facing now as far as the 1uz is would the 1uz or 2uz heads be better to use as far as flow?
I thought about putting a modified Toyota V8 in my truck (even called LC Engineering to discuss it). I have high horse power V8 motors in my street rods and customs. Also my Cadilac CTS-VR and XLR-V have high performance V8 motors but I have owned my truck since new and I love it the way it is. My gas mileage in the truck is pretty good as long as you do not "Punch It" too often.
Engine Photos This picture shows my motor. I do not have any that shows underneath the manifold or chassis.
I think the 1uz heads are more popluar as in the whole motor is two the 2uz had weaker rods and pistons from what I read over the years the 2uz guys put 1uz heads on . So proably in general the 1uz is the preferred motor top to bottom
once again very impressive and very clean, i have an 80 toy 4x4 that i think i might have to do that to my 22r i have heard of people with 2uzs using the 1uz heads but wasn't sure if it was due to flow or combustion chamber size... but odds are i will just use the entire 1uz
does anyone know if the 2uz or 3uz intake manifold will work on the 1uz? because id like to have the front facing intake manifold rather than the side facing manifold.

As far as I know... 1UZ vs 2UZ 4.0L - 4.7L Aluminum block vs Iron block 6 bolt mains vs 2 bolt mains early 1UZ still has thicker rods
very interested, thanks for the link. yes i planned to use the early 1uz with the thicker rods and non vvti
honestly the itb's are what sold me on the 1uz (and all aluminum) but i plan itb's, headers, and nitrous. hints why i don't want to boost it... here's the vid that made me love the noise of the 1uz with itb's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBHSivMyC-w here's the link to the itb 1uz hilux (your link didn't work on my comp.) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ivUbc1fAEQ
