Hello everyone! First let me introduce myself, my name is Oscar and I have a 1989 Toyota Pickup 2wd ex cab long bed that I just picked up in a trade . Here's the problem, I just replaced the lower intake manifold and all 4 injectors with used parts off a 93 22re. Upon completion (30 mins ago) I started it up and it idled SUPER high, I dont have a tach, but it feels like atleast 2-3k. I have never seen an idle this high lol. That being said, I know there are a few possible vacuum leaks. Besides the vacuum leaks what else could cause this absurdly high vacuum? note: The vacuum leak i believe is coming from on top of the intake manifold at the sensor that is right in the center, not sure what sensor that is but the gasket that sits between it and the manifold is missing a small piece creating a visible gap. Its the sensor that has a hard line connected to it. Ill take pics and video in a moment. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Yes sir I believe it is the cold start injector it comes right off the fuel rail, could that even be a vacuum leak? What else should I look for?
permatex that gap let it dry and see if that makes a differance if it does replace asap.depending on what you use (wd40,carb cleaner or even water)you can spray it over the intake to find leaks.
Ok so I used some gasket material to seal the injector and I forgot that I had drained a lot of the coolant out and so I also refilled that and it helped a little. After a test drive the idle came down considerably but it's still a little high and idle is rough, so it's pretty good now I just think it may be running rich because I hear popping coming from the exhaust...
Change out that injector right away. Maybe the computer is trying to correct itself thats why the poping.
Once upon a time, my cold start injector was stuck open. It's weird. So i plugged it from the manifold, sprayed some intake cleaner on it and somehow it dissolved something and I plugged it back in. I started the truck and it wasn't dumping fuel anymore. at least that was my experience.
okay, I was just thinking... Did the throttle cable get adjusted by any means? how about the TPS? Is your timing good? Did you run injector cleaner yet? I hope the injectors you got are fine, I'm sure they're not bad. Usually a vacuum leak = lower RPM's and maybe bogging. I'm hoping all is good!
I did take off the throttle cable but I don't think I moved it at all, but it's at a good adjustment now. I haven't set the timing yet or even adjusted the valves so ill be doing that here soon. Would that cold start injector cause a popping sound/backfire? The injectors I put in had 102k from a 93 22re, and I put those in to cure a misfire and they worked.
O and by injector cleaner do you just mean like that Lucas stuff that you put in the tank? Or like something that attaches directly to the fuel rail?
