Even with the new fuel pump installed, the engine has been experiencing difficulty starting. (i have to pour gas in the top to get it started.) The pump works, and there are (were) five gallons of gas and a can of seafoam in the tank.
It turns over just fine, but does not start in most cases.

My question is this: does the engine not wanting to start have anything to do with what is shown in these pictures?

Little pipe on the carb. missing hose?

    Hose capped off?

The alternator is also not charging the battery, but trouble was had even with a fully charged battery.

Anything? Even a "no, none of those hoses have any affect" or a "got no clue, sorry" would be appreciated.

none of those should keep it from starting really. just put plugs on them so you don't have a vacuum leak. the last pic is a valve that when cold makes the secondary accelerator pump add more fuel.

The first pic looks like it may be a accelerator diapram I can't really tell pull tha plug of it and hook it to the vacuum can in the second pick these are just guesses . But if the truck has set for a long time chances of you having varnish buildup from bad gas sticking to the float and clogging the jets . And air bleeds is very possible . poring gas in the carb bypasses all these items . Rebuild it would be my advice there simple devices but when unmaiNtained they can cause hell on your brain

The truck has been sitting for 8-10 years. Looking at http://www.toyotaminis.com/forum/maintenance-repair-20/carburetor-tune-up-1609/ would seem to indicate that pipe on the carb is attached to the "AAP" housing," which has a diaphragm inside. There is currently no plug on it, so what plug are you referring to? (there are only plugs in the 2nd and 3rd pics).

I'm definitely planning on giving the carb a good cleaning one of these days, or possibly eventually (not yet.) getting a weber 32/36 (seeing as so many people on here have good things to say about them). Before I do that, though, I'm going to check if fuel is at least getting TO the carb, even if it's not going through. I can hear the fuel pump running, and I poured 5 gallons in the tank, so it should be just fine in that respect, but I'll check to be sure.

Check for vacuum leaks and inspect the cap and rotor.

    Problem (semi) diagnosed.

Well, after further inspection, the fuel pump is working just fine, and the fuel (if it can be called that) Is getting at least as far as the entrance to the carb.
However, nothing is visible through the sight glass, so it would appear that the carb isn't letting any gas in. Looks like I'm going to have to clean/rebuild or replace it. At this point, it makes more monetary sense to just clean and rebuild the sucker, but i'll eventually get a weber 32/36 in there.
