check it out! it was 400 bucks...not the most smokin' deal ever but its got a straight frame and it runs and drives(not well) even has a title. let me know what you guys think. i could go so many directios with this...
Got smacked right in the sweet spot . I'd pop the other cab and bed on there bring two trucks back to life
so the torsion bars have the nuts right in the front/ two bars that go from the frame in front and down to a arms? ill lower it right now. just the front for tonight and see what its like to be low. progress; banged out a few dents, ripped some guts out the cab...tuned the carb a little, looked at stuff, put the new gate on
The two nuts and bolts that lower the torsion bars are on the transmission cross brace there on long threaded bolts pointing up to the cab to nuts on each one if you loosen the tension the truck will start to come down .
See the two bolts on the trans mount cross brace on each side those are it if that's what your askin about
yah cool i messed with the a little...starts goin down quick huh? one seemed llike it was already backed out a little... i loosend the right bar a little(1/2 inch?) and then the other side was matched. then they were both lowrd a little more. i have a long way to go but i want this one LOW. my other one('77) i want to leave stock. maby cuz i think it has the best stock look or cuz i think they have the worst slammed look. then again this body style has the best look slammed!! some nice ones out their guys keep it up...shout out to AHSHTIET from Maui, im headed for the style of your ride, beautiful!
last night i took out a leaf and changed the oil which ran black even after i filled it ran it and flushed it again, the next oil change will be soon. it s funny how people just run these trucks in to the ground and they just keep going. it hard to kill any xxR-series vehicle. i like the way it rides with one less spring in the back and less tension in the front heres how it sits with a leaf out and a little off the front!!!
Yea it can be soft and then it gets ruff the lower u go cause the suspicion just flops around if u loosen it a lot the body damage you have can be cut out and a new area welded in if you find a replacement rocker and door sill/ jam area that is if u don't swap bodies
how is best to stay a way from sloppy underpinnings? i'll do upper and lower bj flip soon...should i put spacers on top as well?
A ball joint flip will work on bringing it down more I don't no about a spacer in between the ball joint and control arm could be done but I'd make sure it's very sturdy and strong hardware is used after doing the flip u can add some stiffer shocks and put a little more tension back into your torsions .its really up to you and how much ride quality you want I've seen guys ride on bump stops and be fine with it but it's tuff on your steering rack and tie rods
Not a bad truck for what u paid. I think it would make a great beater. If you ever trash the blue or white tailgate I would buy the "Toyota" metal section from the tailgate
so ya... found out theres no balljoint flip option...duh. so any way ill take out the torsions...and put 205 75 r14s all the way around just to get something close to the fenders in the front. out back ill wait on the blocks till i get the body swap... hay what do people think of a body drop on stock suspension...low look with out "no suspension" ride well ill just get this thing running right for now and when i get some cash ill grab this 4x4 and drag it home too.
I swapped the front suspension out of an '87 into my '80 so that I could BJ flip and put on drop spindles... something you may want to look into. I will eventually update my build thread... one day. haha
The only "modification" needed for the swap is drilling one hole in each LCA for the torsions. Other than that, it is a fairly simple swap. I also bought new polyurethane suspension bushings to swap in and put them in a couple weeks after the swap. I guess I should have waited till I had all the parts. If you have any questions about the swap just ask. I have literally taken these front suspensions completely apart and put them back together 4 times now so I am pretty knowledgable about the subject.
as far as adjusting goes, the after actual suspension swap you shouldn't need to adjust anything. It is only when you install drop spindles that you need to correct the toe-in.
thanks alot! so what year front suspension did you use? is there a build thread or any other posts i should look up? also hows the handling? stiff shocks, new bushings, drop spindles, rekey torsion bars, ball joint flip, small bump stops from beefedtaco. there are many pot holes and dirt roads, i need the suspension to work because i like to drive fast. i want it static/daily and low, ive cosidered a skid pan. anywho thanks for the tips, and experience.
