can any one help me out? im looking for a w58 transmission so i can put it on my 88 toyota short bed pick up 2wd. what year? what vehicle can i take it out and also will it fit? thanks....
Any w58 will fit as long as it can from a 22r. Or you'll need the w series bellhousing from a 22r to fit it........i think Idk if that made any sense to you, maybe someone else can explain it better
I had the best luck running a celica supra transmission (with a 5M motor). It had the best shifter alighnment. And yes you will need a w series to 22R bellhousing, But you may be lucky and have one already. Ive run the 7M supra W58s and the shifter is way farther back. May not work if you have a bench seat. I think the w58s in the 22R celicas have the shifter somewhere in the middle of the two above. Not sure. Oh yea IS300's have W58s too, but the shifter is extremely far back.
Shifter housing are interchangeable. 22r celica w58's puts the shifter dead center in the tunnel opening. I have one in my 87 pickup.
Did all manual 22r celicas come with a w58? JW cus the guy i bought my truck from said it had a celica tranny and ID'ing toyota trannies arent as easy as reading some numbers stamped into it.... Seems like a visual thing (aluminum, steel, counting re-enforcment ribs) I found a website a while back that had a good explanation on how to ID them, but i never come to a conclusion on mine.... Or else i wouldnt be asking
****, i need a mechanical speedo assembly. the one i installed is electric and my truck is mechanical. does anyone have one to trade? W series trans by the way....
