engine turns over several times befor starting, replaced rotor, cap, wires, and spark plugs. I am going to replace vacuum lines this week. Has 150k with recent timing chain replaced. What should the fuel pressure be and how do I test it? Where is the fuel pump located? Would greatly appreciate any helpful feedback.

Fuel pump is in the tank. pressure should be over 35 psi. ideally closer to 40-45. turning over a few times isn't that uncommon, are we talking 2-4 times or cranking for 10 seconds?

likely culprits: cold start injection system, very tiny leak in the fuel system (leaks pressure when sitting but not enough to leak fuel when running), or electronic problems. The pump itself isn't likely the problem if it does start.

we're talking two times, used to always start immediatly. seems to run a little better with new vac lines but had no affect on starting. I gararge it and never noticed fuel oder so I doubt a small leak. Will pursue cold start injection system first but I can't rule out electronics problem. If you have any advice on cold start I'd appreciate it. Thanks for assistance!

started fine after timing chain replacement(crank/cam timing is right). Starting issue seemed to creep up over time. Somethings going on that I can't diagnos. Did vac lines and tune up first. battery seems good but it is not new, alt checks out. no indication of bad ground. I understand carburators and their circuits and can diagnos problems but fuel injection systems I am not familar with functions..... Occasionally when on the highway, truck will have a surge of power that I wish it had all the time. I am getting 18 mpg with large wheels 31x10.50R15, down from previous years. Don't know what others are getting for mpg...
