Ive been hearing a noise coming from the back of my truck I am thinking maybe its my differential like only when Im going normal driving speed? I checked the tires make sure its not hitting anything and its not that. Or can it be that I put limited slip gear oil instead of conventional whatever the normal one for it is ?
Im thinking that too because its not leaking and when I put it like two months ago it didnt make that noise till now
Try to rotate the tires to see if it helps . Gear lube for LSD just have an additive to modify friction for the LSD clutch, Some gear oils claim to not need an additive to work in LSDs. I have read that some hypoids work better than others. On the Supra site a racer said he had the best results with Ford Motorcraft hypoid GL5 rated, So that is what I used in my Supra along with the ford LSD additive. That worked very well. I did notice noise differences between brands. I believe I tried 3 brands. Tech semi syn. , Lucas and finally Amsoil. I put some Lucas additive in my Corona when I first changed the differential, but when I changed it again I believe I used Amsoil GL5 of the proper wt. and had real good results. I was trying to get some "free" MPGs . IT is very important to use the proper gear lube for a syncro trans. My 69 Corona has never shifted as well once I changed lube, I have tried several brands , But I wish I had never changed it as it has never been the same since. Old syncros need to use GL4 spec and NOT the commonly available GL5. The GL5 spec does not work with my old Corona. Even the Amsoil oil guy said he has had similar problems with changing lubes. Someday I will look at the original clutch and lube the pilot bush and polish the shaft to see it that will restore it to the slick shifter it once was.. Carl H
i put GL5 in everything I own, best gear oil out there really. The noise you have honestly there is so much going on back there that we can only make a guess over the internet since we cant hear what you're hearing. I would suggest taking it somewhere to have them atleast figure out whats going on, for the repair I think we can teach you how to fix anything on your truck.
Thanx bro cuz mine takes 80w 90 GL4 i just found out and I used 80w 90 valvoline synthetic blend limited slip
Is it a clinging sound? Because not to long ago my truck was starting to make a clinging sound whenever I would take off or reverse cam to find out my pinion gear teaths were chipped
The noise is kinda hard to explain but when I am driving the truck it makes like its scrapping something but I checked and the rear tires arent hitting anything? When I took my drums off the noise went away but its weird because the drums were loose when I spun the tires free in the air?
