Alright, so I'm new to school and just recently started doing my own repairs. One of my future mods is trading the exhaust manifold on my 3.0, 2wd 93 SR5 xcab for headers. Any suggestions on what headers would give me the best fit without too much headache? I'll be changing out the rusty old pipes and muffler too. Any suggestions would be most welcome.
Speaking of efficiency... what kinda blind faith should I put in the GF chips that are advertised on this site? I think it's worth spending the 70 bucks to try it out... if a little computer chip can increase power and better my gas mileage, I think it's worth a shot. Input please?
Cinnamon, I would have appreciated a little more info than that, but I looked around and found out for myself how big of a scam it is. I will not be buying one afterall. So, the other question I have is this: can I use the ecu from a 3.4 taco and cause my engine to run leaner or richer, in turn giving me better mileage? Legitimate question, right? Or is there a performance ecu for the 3VZE? I love my truck and aside from exhaust headers and cold air intake, there's not a whole lot I can do to get me better mileage yet maintain performance. I'm open to suggestions.
Yeah I'm sorry man, I should've left some more info. some of that wire in stuff just tricks the engine is cold so it pours in more fuel, and that just leads to more problems with the vehicle running. It's better to just leave the ecu as is, you know? and the 3.4L ECU won't work with the 3.0L as far as we know. it's a neat idea though, but completely different stuff.
you can do the headers and a good flowing exhaust to open up the back door. a free flow intake and filter will help you open the front door. if you want better fuel economy and better power at the same time, you can do a set of balanced injectors. this will help make the most of the fuel being pumped into your motor. this increases efficency while also giving you better power from balancing out your combustion. like mentioned, LC Engineering is your hop up central for all your motor needs. ive used them for allot of my truck mods. good company to deal with and good customer support
You know, I wish my headers weren't so expensive though... I can only do a few things here and there... I wish I could do it all at once. So far I've replaced the ancient shocks with Munroe shocks all around, new fuel filter, air filter, painted my rims and slapped some new tires on( 205/60/R15 Goodyear Eagle GT). I would love to get to work replacing body panels and bumpers but I'm sure you know, it's tough to scrape together cash when your build up is your daily driver. Ultimately I want it bagged, but I wouldn't be able to work on that without a beater get me around. So next project to save for is exhaust unless you think a cold air intake would get me by on MPG for starters...
Cold air intake would not lead to enough gain in MPG to justify the cost of the intake (or atleast an intake that would make a difference NOT EBAY BRAND) A drop in K&N filter would be worth the $$ but the entire intake charge system would not in my opinion be something Id buy over an exhaust system.
I've been looking at my air intake for a little while. There are some boxes and hoses coming off of the tubing and air filter housing that seem useless. When I disconnected the hoses from the vacuum tubing (small metal pipes connected to the intake cover) the engine didn't quit. It didn't run worse or better either, but it was a little different. Sorry, really hard to explain. Like I said earlier in this post, I want to put in a cold air intake, which is more feasible money-wise... can I just put some breather filters over the ends of that tubing, then replace the stock intake with the cold air intake system of my choosing? There's also the question of the MAF sensor... WTF am I supposed to do about that?
The 3VZE is a fckin pig!! Wen i had mine it chugged up the gas. Then it died. Hope urs lasts longer than mine did
thanks for all the tips So, since I was last on here, I have lowered the truck and just ordered a cold air intake (Weapon-R Dragon Air Intake). and I have some pics. I will hopefully be joining Twisted Koncepts club here in VA Beach. Can't wait to get started on body work... I have so many plans for this beauty.
Oh, BTW... What kind of HP gains can I expect to get with a cold air intake like that? And how many MPG could I gain also?
So what are you saying? I should do my exhaust before I bolt on my intake? Is my truck gonna run like crap if I do? I have to wait a while for the exhaust, just don't have the money for that at this juncture...
Look at an ignition system to. It's worth a little HP improves gas millage and gives better cold weather starting. You can open up the plug gap a little wich promotes a better flame fron in the cylinder. I rum an old school mallory that I had to make an adaptor to go between the ignitor and the coil. Not real had to do, it's kinda like hooking up a tach. And I was able to open my plug gap to 45 thousandts them I drop a few buck on indewxing washers for the plugs to make sure thw gap to face the pistons. Made a huge difference for me. I got about 3 more mpg and my east coast truck strats and runs great up here in the frozen north durring the winters. BYW how's thins in VA? I grew up in Newport News, Hampton, and Norfolk. And if you ever need parts Hit the Bap Geon in Norfolk, tell Drew and Earl, Chuck sent you I worked with them for years. It might be worth getting a little better price. Just don't ask for it and they will take care of you on parts.
