Been thinking about the plausibility of a nice flatbed conversion for my rusting '78 out here on the coast. Anyone have experience or knowledge? I found 1 pic of a '78 that had a wide-bed job done and it looked pretty awesome but I want to keep the same dimensions as the stock bed. Lemme know!

I've been thinking the same for my '76. I've been searching for ideas on the internet, but I also can't find pictures of this generation with that conversion...

I have come up with several ideas for a flatbed/ratrod flatbed look that I think would look awesome. Just not one to help me weld a frame to mount the wood on. :( I thought about using that composite decking to create more coherence between my truck (white/blue) and the bed. Also mounting the bed low and creating custom metal wheel wells so it would be easy to haul/load things. My bed is the rustiest part of the truck :(

This is an older thread but i am guessing you won't have any luck finding an aftermarket flat bed. I would guess you will have to build one and would need to be quite compitent with a welder. Or you could find a metal fab shop that could build something. Just take the same bed design and build it that way? And weld in some cross supports that you could secure your bolts to hold down that decking your talking about. Good luck not sure if i was much help though.
