If you want to drive that thing back up to Tennessee, I'll swap it out for you. I sure would like to see it.

If your familiar with your motor its not to bad definitely would recommend a new head gasket during the. Process a. Decent torque wrench and a shiltons or Haynes manual available at any autoparts store will be a tremendous help .

Knucklehead dang I'm not to far from ya I'm in collierville TN I think were the only two TN members ha

Is you truck an efi or carb? first of all set your main pully at tdc then remove the valve cover. Pull your distr. out.Remove the cam shaft bolt without moving your timming then the camshaft sprocket. You can d.rop the chain down Remove head bolts then the rocker arm assy. You should go ahead and release the pressure on the valve lash with a flat head screw driver and a size 12 before you remove it.Its easier. Then remove the three cam caps (bearings) keep in mind they are numbered 1 2 3 and they have an arrow Be careful not to move or shift your head or else you will have to replace your head gasket.slap in your 280 and some assy lube. replace the caps make sure you put them back on their numbered spot and point the arrows to the front of the motor. there are torque specs for the cap i think 12 fp or something like that but I just hand tighten them be carefull not to over tighten. you dont want to fuk up those threads.Next put the rocker arm assy. back on with the loose valve lash. The rocker arm assy. also has a directional arrow that should also point to th front of the motor. replace and torque headbolts to 80 fp follow the torque sequence in your trusty hanes handbook.Set your valve lash at 8 intake and 10 exh. with your feeler guage. pick up the chain and and put the sprocket back in it and put it on. youl will need a screw driver to pry up the sprocket to compress the tensioner. the arrow on your sprocket should be just a butt hair to the left of the mark on your rocker arm assy. Before you do this make sure you are still on tdc w.ith your main pully. Put the cam bolt back in and whack your ratchet with a hammer a couple times to tighten it down. Put your dist. back in with it pointing to #1. replace valve cover and throttle cable and whatever else and thats abou it. I might have missed something but I think thats about it. hit me up If you have any questions. good luck

^ he has it right. Just drain the coolant out before you take off the headbolts. If you dont you will blow the gasket.
