Just wrapping up mine and if you're like me (inexperienced) I can say it was actually fun. as long as you keep your pieces organized it's not too shabby. Maybe i'm posting out of my league here but if anyone has any questions about doing a stock Aisan I'd be happy to help out. I took out every single nut, bolt, piston, washer, clip, gasket and o-ring during my rebuild and all I have to do is wait for a few parts to come in the mail. Off hand - recommendations: Don't do it in a closet like I did.. I have a small man cave in my house where I'm allowed to keep my tools and bang on things (don't ask).. and the fumes sucked. Latex gloves = happy Lacquer Thinner works and i think it's cheaper than a can-'o-carb cleaner. Nylon brush Dentist pick (solenoid o-ring) TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR CHOKE HOUSING ORIENTATION. (given it's working or you use it) if you're going to dismantle everything like I did.. be SUPER careful with the power valve assembly in the float bowl. You can use a ratchet on the main part while removing it no problem, but when you unscrew the underside to access/inspect the assembly go easy on it (especially when screwing it back in), it snapped on me during reassembly and I had to buy a new one... and i'm still waiting for the company to ship it out. make sure you have a standard screw driver with a LARGE head to take out the jets in the float bowl - I stripped mine a little and it just feels bad.. anything else? lemme know~!
You are officially a BOSS if you can get it back together and running properly. But really, going back together is the tough part. Have fun!
it's 99% back together.. just waiting on my power valve assy and primary venturi jet spring. I'll post pics when it's finished and installed. (as long as it runs.. cross fingers) otherwise it's to the autozone for a new carb for me!
quicky FYI for anyone ordering parts from toyota parts east. if they don't have it in stock it takes FOREVER to get them from their supplier. but.. they have EVERYTHING
Well, I popped open the bottle of scotch tonight. After a little starter fluid and some spilled gasoline, 3 cigarettes and some head scratching I got it running! A little fine tuning over the next few days and i'll be good to go. -*** note*** DON'T FORGET to put the mounting bolts back into the throttle body hole BEFORE screwing the carburetor back together. The mounting bolt nearest the battery won't go in and you'll have to McGyver it.
Update: lol... massive fuel leak in the carb. I think it's the power valve assembly.. i had a hard time tightening it down and i think it's just sucking everything out of the reservoir. It smells like a barbeque. And now it is at the mechanic getting fixed. please don't listen to anything I've said as my Karma will probably make your car explode if you attempt to follow anything I've mentioned here. please delete this thread. mood: humbled.
