This is going to be a pretty tame build seeing as how my time is mainly spent offroad but I traded a car for this 1988 base model short box and figured what the hell lets build a low one. Truck Specs... 1988 base model regular cab short box 22r 4speed Rust free The Plan... -drop spindles (scored off craigslist for $150) -ball joint flip -slight torsion bar adjustment -Belltech shocks(have) -3" blocks in the rear and remove middle leaf -18" Mitsubishi Eclipse wheels and 235/45-18 take off's with maybe 1000 miles on them. I got these from the local Toyota dealer for $300. -4wd fenders up front -Flat black with gloss black repaint for the wheels. Here are some pics of the truck and aquired parts. More pics to follow when I actually start to tear into this thing.
Welcome to TM. Wow those are some sik looking rides you got. Nice start you got there for parts. Cant wait for more pics.
Thanks, i'm pretty pumped about this truck. It's been a while since I've had something low. I hope to start tearing into this soon and will try my best to take plenty of pics. I'll be installing all new brake components (rotors, calipers, pads)and removing the lspv while i've got it apart. The lspv is leaking so it'll be removed. I plan to add a header and a 2.25" exhaust as well. I have the same setup on my "red truck" and it helps move it along pretty well. If anybody is curious, the crawler has a 22R, 5 speed, 5.29 gears, Aussie lockers front and rear, 30 spline chromoly axles up front(dirty 30's), high steer, upgraded brakes and fj mastercylinder, 5:1 gears in the transfer case, arp hub and steering arm studs, t.g. 4" springs in the front and 63" Chevys in the rear. It has 37" pitbull rockers and 17" trail gear creeper beadlock wheels. The box is all 1.75" tubing and a ton of diamond plate. I built the truck 5 years and continue to break and upgrade parts as I go.. I bought the truck in 2001 with 47k miles on it, it just turned 100k last year. My friend harass me regularly about how clean my trail truck is and how I manage to keep it in one piece. I'm pretty sure I have some form of OCD.
Update... The rear is done with the blocks installed and middle leaf removed, and belltech shocks. Low profile bumpstops on as well. Body work has begun, just smoothing out a few dings. John Deere Blitz Black will be the color with the 08 18" Mitsu rims being painted gloss black. I'm making my own roll pan and installing an early nineties 4runner front bumper and valance. I can tell there aren't too many rust free old toys left in wisconsin, I feel lucky to own 2 of them. Body work on the 2wd is alot easier when you are not dealing with rust. Hooefully this weekend I will be installing the spindles, shocks, balljoint flip, new calipers, rotors and pads. I have temporarily cranked the torsion bars to keep things level till the spindles go on and the balljoints get flipped.
Spindles are on along with flipping both upper and lower balljoints. 18's fit well and dont rub the fenders. Now for John Deere blitz black paint and gloss black for the wheels.
Looking good blitz black will look sweat. Do you have any feedback on those shocks mine are giving up those look well built
They seem fine, it doesn't ride like a caddi that's for sure! I got all 4 shocks from autoanything.com for 180ish shipped. The front wheel wells are going to have to be severly modified before I can go any lower, but I knew that from the get go. I'm happy with how it looks stance wise, it takes a pretty good bump for it to bottom out so that's good. How do I post full-size pics? Purchase a yearly toyotaminis membership??
