I'm playing around with my 88 and thinking about doing the 20r head setup..

I have two heads that I have NO clue wtf they are! Anyone know a way to look at them and tell if they will work with my 88? I can get some pictures of the 2 heads this weekend, but from what I was told they are both 20R heads just no clue if they will work with my 88 block.

Actually if my memory is working correctly at the moment a 20R head won't work on an 88 block in which case this is a mute question...

Looks like I will be porting/polishing/boring this 22r head for whatever size valves I have!

20r head has round intake ports and two wholes per port as opposed to a pear shape 22r exhaust port. 20r head can be used on your block with some modifications.

I will have to look at the heads... Anyone have a side by side picture of the two?

Also is there an easy way to measure valves to see how big they are? I want to make sure I get the right springs and cam for these massive valves that I'm planning on running!

Dual valve springs should be good for a bigger cam and a 22r cam will work on a 20r head

    I see I see thanks!

Guessing I should probably get Seals, Guides, retainers, keepers, springs, rockers for a 20R and not a 22R head right?

I'm still trying to figure out which valves I have *huge!* so I can figure out what stage cam I'm going with and springs.

Also curious what a 20r/22r hybrid makes in HP? Isn't it around 200hp or something with bigger pistons or something?

Edit: Anyone know if the bottom end has to be built at the same time as the head when going with much larger valves? I think these are the 44mm/40mm valves by the way... I'm going to run by a machine shop locally Friday and see if he can measure them for me.

Another edit: Anyone know if the 44mm/40mm valves and a stage 3 cam will still idle/work fine for the street? I'm also looking at the +.060" pistons so anyone know if those will work for street and playing around?

Check B.Y.E.on here he knows all about this hybrid build. Or you can talk to the techs at LC but you will need to figure out the size of those valves first they will need that info.

After seeing the cost to build a 200hp motor I've said screw it and going to stock rebuild it for a 1/16 of the cost lol! The truck is quick with 100 and would love 200, but not worth the fortune!

Maybe some day it will get some 2jz-gte love if I can find one locally for a cheap price!
