iDont have a tachometer myself but around 4000-5000 seems to be where a stock 22r peaks... if ur goin for a basic tach i'd jus get something that goes up to 8000rpm

Stock it stops pulling around 4K.

My stock bottom end motor has spun 7K several times. I dont reccomend this though!:nana:

Red line is 6k on my 20r might be a lil different. But really on the 20r and 22r there is no redline you will just float your valves

The 8k reading mist be right then, although idk never saw or heard of a stock 22r reving up that high, don't think its safe for the motor too.

ive spun a 10k tach hard enough to bounce with my hybrid so it is possible to 8k a stock lower end heck my stock 20r with like 200k spins way past 8k just by the sound [dont have a tach on this one]

I don't think you can hit 8k on a stock 22r or a 20 r without slinging a rod cap or bearing theres no point to rev one a stocker that high way past its torque and hp curve I have a fully built bottom end with paradise race rods and a shaved and plugged crank I struggle to hit 7200rpm the long stroke of theses motors limits there rev capabilities and the stock valve springs the stock harmonic balancer hits its limit at 5300 rpm .unless you get wild and hold your foot on it till it shakes apart

i cant argue the accuracy of a yard sale tach on my other truck but i know it went over nine grand a few times [80 truck head/84celi block 20r crank and rods 22re cam and rockers 20r intake with a highly moddified stock carb[broke at the time did what i had to] 22r celi ex. mani. heat delete on the intake mani. clevite bearings throughout blued them all in. pretty much exhausted every mod i could do to the poor stock parts put it all together for grand total of 475$ and it would eat 5.0s and **** camaros so it was toyotas for me from there on out!

O I know the feeling love when I get a weird look from a owner of a much more powerful car the confusion on his face as a 20+ year old truck just rocked him at a stop light . It's always so worth it

Yeah i don't think my stock tach even reads to 8 i think it might top off at 7 and at about 4 or 5 i feel like i'm pushing the living hell out of my motor. These motors are sure not a high reving motor. I also think that's one of the reasons the 4wd are so popular in off roading too. I also have the 20r with a 5 speed but i would guess that the 20r's and 22r's aren't much different power curve wise?

Different cams will let the engine rev higher and make power when it does. The stock cam and carb will only spin to about 5500 but it stops making power about 4800 rpm so anything above that is just noise.

    This is true.
Anything under 5500, really. I shift at 4800 on my 22RE and it seems perfect.

My stock 22re with headers, 2.5 pipes in my celica bounces around 7300, but of course, theres no power above 6k

I just shift when my butt doesnt feel anymore pull...

No sense in trying to redline these engines to 10K, there werent designed for it... Even if you were to build it you'll put a hole thru the block!
