Anyone know a reliable test for the mechanical fuel pump on the 84 22R?

I pulled the line, stuck it in a bottle, and cranked about 10 seconds...only got an ounce or two of fuel..and not a steady flow...more of a squirt,pause,squirt,pause...

Should i be getting a steady flow? And how much volume should i get in 10-15 seconds?

You should be getting almost a constant flow but it does squirt squirt every time that cam shaft spins and turns the lobe. Sounds like maybe the filter or line coming into the pump may be restricting the flow. Check all the lines and filter if that doesn't work might have to pull the pickup and check the screen.

I had the pickup assembly out of the tank couple months ago, cleaned the screen and replaced the in-line filter,so that should be good...

I'll try unhooking both ends of the line and blowing through if i get time today...also possible i got a little water in the tank, and ice is blocking the line, but i got no way of warming it up...

I did blow back thru the filter yesterday and could hear bubbles in the tank...also possible i f**ed up the carb rebuild, but i wouldn't do that:shrug:

SO you did a rebuild on the carb? Is this a stock carb? Try spilling a little gas straight into the butterflys. If it starts and runs for a sec and dies and your getting good flow on the pump I would suspect the carb. Maybe a stuck float bowl or a clogged jet. Are you seeing the fuel rise in the view window?

If not for the low mileage,(77K) I'd be pretty tempted to junk this thing about now...pulled the carb back off(stock Aisan carb),still can't break the main jets loose, but carb cleaner flows freely through them...found a bad o-ring on the slow jet and replaced that...now it runs ok,but still dogs out when i gas it....I'll probably have to replace the carb when (if) I can afford it...

So I figured I'd move the truck since it was running, but now the clutch doesn't work...no resistance on the pedal...checked the reservoir and it's dry...topped it off but couldn't get underneath due to front tires went flat and froze to the ground...i assume there's a bleeder down there and I'll get after it when I can...warmer days and ambition don't always come at the same time...I checked the line best as i could and saw no signs of a leak, but must be one somewhere,or would still have fluid...I moved the truck in November,so clutch was working then...
