I had already upgraded the battery &, battery cables ( 2.0 GA.),both positive & negative leads. Also went larger on the main wire @ the alternator.
You also have to change the main fuse @ the engine fuse box to a larger one, stock is 60amps!

well, my ground wires have been upgraded, 4ga to the intake manifold, and 2ga to the body. I haven't upgraded any wires to the fuse block yet, is that something i should do? considering i dont have any extra accessories wired in?

If you intend to go with a higher out put alternator,I would up grade both battery leads ! Also the main wire from the alternator,if I remember correctly it goes to the fuse box in the engine bay!

you could try a GM high out put alternator, this is an easy conversion you only need 3 wires; hot to BAtt, switched ignition, and voltage sensing wire. Alot of people will run the VS wire #2 on the plug on the side to the battery post on the back, but realy you should use the factory one from the regulator to the "dummy" light on the dash. Should be east to find in a Hayens manual. As far as as what alternator that fits in the bracket, hit the junk yard and compare what fitments will work, I'll bet a mid 80's to mid 90's unit will work just get the plug when you do. Later models have 4 or 5 wires that hook to the computer to help control engine load and for the charge monitor. If you find one that fits, go for the rebuilt unit from the autoparts store once you have a make and model. Wile your there see if they will let you look at the paper cataloge, most have a picture of the plugs and a easy to follow wire pin location. I've done this on a couple older domestics, as well as 5 Samuri's, and even added a second alt to a VW bug.

The alternator I went with is a 3 wire so both the charge light & trigger stay as stock. They made a link plug to go from the stock plug to the GM plug.
The LC unit is a 1 wire & I'm no sure if they bracket will work with a si alternator!
