im sure there is a thread bout converting rear drums to disk but im wanting to do so. any info on it?
first you gotta find what brake setup you want to use. i've heard of using 90's mustang front rotors and 80's gm metric calipers. mine are 87 toyota supra turbo rear rotors and calipers. i had to bore the rotor 6mm to fit the truck axle. the mustang stuff shouldn't need bored. then remove all the stock brake stuff and cut off the drum backing plate. mock it all up and make the caliper stands and hook it all together.
My rear set up works great ! There just aren't any brackets for using the Mustang rotors, why I had to make my own! Brackets are there for using GM rotors,pilot hole has to be machined larger!!
4X4 are 6 lug. Lot of brackets for use of GM rotors, but they must have the center hole enlarged. The Mustang SVO go right on! You have to ,or should use longer studs. See my post on rear brake conversion!
I understand that 4x4 are 6 lugs I was lookin one night and found a company that made a bracket that bolts to axle shaft for the caliper and drum backing plate is removed I believe. A dude I know that has done fab for 15 yrs said he makes them all the time. A better combo valve from a late model toyota truck should be used since higher pressure and pretty sure it said that front brake calipers and rotors can be used for rear or maybe have custom one for supras etc.
Sky Manufacturing makes the brackets & like I have said before these are to mount GM rotors & calipers! These are the ones used most often by the 4x 4 guys!
