I have an 84 sr5 EFI, and typically if it sits for a long period of time, anything over 3 hours, when i roll it over, it will fire up, and then fall all the way back down and die. but if i bump it again, it will start and run perfectly. or it will idle really low, 500 rpm? until you give it a little throttle, and it starts to run just fine. but say i shut it off to go buy something inside the store, and come back, and it barely even has to roll over once and it fires and runs perfectly. any ideas on what my issue could be?
sounds like a leaky injector dropping your fuel in the rail so you fire it up and the rail has to build pressure and the truck dies, then second start up everything is ok.
maybe the cold start injector? the only thing is it doesnt fire right away, it has to roll over 4 or 5 times, like i would expect it to do during a normal startup. and it will fire, and fall right back down and die.
well after some inspectoin under the hood, i did find a leaky fuel pressure regulator! Also explainse why my fuel mileage isnt quite right? but just for kicks we checked my fuel rail pressure, and i'm right at 30 psi. So its not quite a rough or low idle, after looking uip some specs, more of a miss at idle.
you have to start with the obvious. Replace the leaking fuel regulator and see if the problem continues a mis can be anything from an ignition problem to timing or even an air leak. I would start with the normal stuff like checking your cap/rotor and plugs for nasties and then go from there.
