First off I just want to say I'm new to this forum. I just bought a 91 pickup 2wd. I think the ball joint's need to be replaced. The truck came with new sets of upper and lowers. The question I have is...do you have to put grease in the ball joints? Looking at what I assume are the uppers, they have a nipple on the back end, I'm guessing your supposed to use a grease gun to put some grease in there. Thanks in advanced.
You should be able to fill it without making it burst. enough to fill it. and jetas, those zerks are there for grease filling... lol who said that?
I have a full set of upper and lower arms from cando specialties. The lower ball joints that come with it have a zerk fitting or whatever its called. And you can put a grease gun on it and fill it. BUT the UPPER ball joint has this wierd fitting on it. It looks like a zerk fitting but it doesn't seem to have any opening on it. It is really wierd. I didn't put any grease in it. I believe they are a Chrysler ball joint? I was kinda wondering if I should shove some grease in there anyway or if it is pre greased? But ya that could have been what dude was talking 'bout.
Actually that's not right. The upper ball joint that I have doesn't even have a fitting. It just has a hole on the ball joint where it looks like you can put a fitting in it. But you can't. Just a minor detail but I kinda thought all ball joints had to have a grease fitting.
some ball joints are non serviceable, they come with grease and when the boots pop it wont be long until the joint is done. Some are serviceable where you can grease em and even if the boots pop they will last a while longer. Having an open hole sux on your balljoint cause water gets in there and rusts the joint which kills em quick
Cool. Thanks for the info. Looks like I'll be changing some ball joints this weekend. Doesn't look like its that hard.
