you will need to do the swap and go to the dmv and get a vin verification and they will send you the chp, wicth will check to see if any thing is stolen. if its all good the will give you what you will need. and the will register it by the frame that you use.

I believe it would need to be running to pass safety and emissions so yes smog for a CA vehicle.

hm... well no, as long as you smogged the body car you should be fine until your next smog, they you are gonna have problems if you are not up to snuff. Basically you are gonna have to build it to pass smog then either wait till your next one or wait until the cop pulls ya over and sends ya to the reff.

It was when I bought my single cab it was smogged then. An shouldn't need smog until 2013. But since it'll still be registered off the frame it shouldn't need smog until then right?

what the 4.7 out of? mini truck, fullsize truck, suv,? cus you can do a legal motor swap if its form the same class and is a new motor. you will need to have all the smog stuff for that motor and it will have the pass smog for the yr of the motor not the car.

THE 4.7 is out of a 03 tundra and going in an 89 single cab frame with a 91 runner body.

You'll probably have to get tht ref'd. Just like anyother legal motor swap. Just make sure you have all the smog stuff on it and it should be ok

I have never had them check the vin on the frame and I have been pulled over with some crazy car's/trucks before lol ....

if your ride gets stollen that would be the only chance but they dont really care anymore .. my boys car got jacked the other week it was left in the middle of the street with 3 tires on it .. the cops called him and told him to come pick up his car from the middle of the street (its blocking traffic they said)

so you should be more then good as long as you own the body that you are driving and have your reg. paper work

I agree with you, 99% of the time I doubt the inspector or officer is expecting a car made out of parts or that he/she knows what parts do and don't belong together etc. But the code is what the code is. Take it or leave it.

You can do what's they said. I did to till I got pull over and the cop was not dum. My truck had no vin on it and they wanted to crush it. They didn't cuz I was a local shop. But I had park it till it was all taking care of.

If I was you I would put the body on and then go to the chp and get it check of. It's FREE and will save you later. Then after that put the motor in it and pay for inlegal smog ever to 2 yr cur the v8 won't pass the ref.

I have done this **** alot. I have a big motor in my samurai but it still a 4 banger. My nubby Toyota had the vortex v6 in and he was able to ref it, then he put a v8 in it and it wont ref.
So when you have the v8 try nit to get pulled over for loud exuest. Cus that will get you sent to the ref

    But that just my input
