Got the entire inside of my 67 stout de-rusted, color changed to satin black, dash and pieces repainted grey, new bucket seats mounted. All the interior needs is some carpet and vinyl door panels to be completely redone and finished (until the custom center console gets made). Got the new electric fuel pump installed, and the old 3rb carb taken off, and a rebuilt, jetted down 22r carb with electric choke installed and running beautifully, like any new carbed truck from toyota!
nice. Today on my truck I filled her up. went to my friend's house. scraped the exhaust and crossmember on his driveway.... owch. washed her up!
Bought a fuse block splitter for my compressors and such and 100 feet of 1x1sq tube for the bed. After looking at it 100 feet might not be enough.
~ are just used to space the other characters around ^ are cones from the oncoming view * are cones from birds eye view > cone is laying right < cone is laying left >^ eg is a cone you will drive on the right side of, basically left corner. ^< is the opposite of above. >'s, <'s, V's, ^'s indicate direction, if they're alone Went auto crossing for the first time ever. I ran the truck with a full tank of gas, also. The course was set up by a Mini Cooper S driver, so it was a bit tighter and smaller, better for the vehicles with less power. The track was a 45-46 second course, if you were driving a fancy car with a pretty good driver and don't hit any cones. A fellow friend with a RSX Type S, autocrossing for almost 3-4 years, ran his best time of 44.xxx. That's a 200+ hp FWD car with all the suspension and footwork mods he could do. The car is set up perfectly and turns wherever he points it to. An Audi S4 B5 from the 2nd heat ran a 43second lap. he has about ~290hp, give or take. Good driver for sure. The local college Formula SAE with their silly cone eating drivers got a best of 36 second, which was pretty good. In SCCA Solo, a cone = 2 seconds added to your time, this is ALOT of time... The course I ran on was very technical. Alot of cars ran, but only two heats. Each driver is given 6 runs for their money's worth. I was placed into the Street Open class (street tires) since it was significantly lowered and all that jazz. I for sure wasn't the fastest in the class but wasn't the slowest in the whole entire event. (Prelude, RX8, Magnum, '11 Mustang V6, etc etc, were probably faster than me in a straight line, but with the ridiculous body roll and sloppy driving.. not around corners...) Given a full tank of gas, pretty tall gearing, an automatic, and most of all, a truck, I kept the truck in 1st gear (L for the automatic). 1st gear ends in 51mph. 51mph which is about 6250rpm's, out of the power band, 45mph which is around 5800-6100rpm's which is redline to no balls, and 40mph which is pretty torquey and where the power band ends. Between 25mph and 40mph is where the truck gives me her all. The track gave me no reason to let the truck upshift for any purpose nor would the truck have the power to get past 1st gear and use it. I rolled up and got hydrated. Waiting in the grid, awaiting to run. Man, I was EXCITED. Parade lap was FAST! even at the mild 20-30mph, I know for sure that the truck is not at it's limit, i do this every day! I'm in the second column, second row, behind a white E36 M3. He lines up and proceeds to take off in his run. I roll up to the line, ready to run the truck at a mild 85% of what I think I COULD do. I placed the truck into 1st, Hard brake, 70% throttle, the guy says i'm good to go and I let off the brake and roll the throttle hard into 100% and the truck accelerates like it always did. No spinning. and here comes the gutless acceleration between 0mph to 25mph hahahahaha. INSTANTLY from the starting line, there is a halfass right pointer cone (which means you go on the right side of the cone). >^_____^ it looked like with ^ as the optimal lines i took *~^^^~~* ~*~^^^~~* ~>*^^^~~~* ~*~^^^~~* *~^^^~~* I go through a gate which is line out by two parallel lines of 5 cones IIRC. *~~~^~* *~~^~~* *~~^~~* *~~^~~* *~~~^~*< I believe after this I had to pull hard to the right and enter a 5 cone slalom marked with a right pointer cone again. (The #'s show where I drive through) I finish the slalom with a rhythm and turning in before each cone to get the truck through. I come around another gate with a left pointer cone (going right) and I opened wide for a Chicago box. *~~~6*< ~~~~~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~*5~ ~~~~~~ ~~4*~~ ~~~~~~ ~~~*3~ ~~~~~~ ~~2*~~ ~~~~~~ ~~>*1~ ~~~~~~ This is a corner outlined by cones and it was pretty tight. This meant most cars WILL slow down dramatically so they don't plow 5 of the 15 outer cones. It looks like (it's not accurate, but you get the point. the box was much tighter and wider) ~******3333******* ~*~~~~~~~~~~~~* ~*~~~4*****2~~~* ~~55~~~~~~~~~~1 ~~V~~~~~~~~~~~^ I come in wide from the right side. 1 I clip the apex. 2 I hug the outer wall. 3. I accelerate upon the outer wall but WOT at the apex. 4 leave the box at 5 As I exit at WOT, the truck kicks out a bit the first try. on my 2-6th laps, I go into a small angle drift, keeping the truck's RPM's up and momentum up, preventing speed losses. I go into a left pointer coneand into another chicago box, but I enter from the side. braking into at 1. apexes at 2,3,4, and WOT at 5 *~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *~~1~~~~~~~~~~~~~~5~~ ^~~~~2~~~~~*~~~~~4 ~~~~~*~~~~~3~~~~~* ~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~* ~~~~~*~~~~~~~~~~~* ~~~~~*************** After this chicago box are 2 left pointer cones ^_____^< ^_____^< leads to a right pointer cone >^____^ This left pointer cone ENDS at a slalom of about 5-6 cones which you can choose either side to start. The first cone is pretty close to the left pointer cone. this means taking the right side will result in a smoother trail, but most drivers enter TOOOOOO fast and brake tooooo late, ending up scrubbing speed and/or hitting a cone. ~~**~~~~~~** (ending gate) ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~*8~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~7*~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~*6~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~5*~~~~ ~~~~~~~x~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~*4~~~braking late means you'll lock up and end up at x ~~~~~~~~~~~brake slightly before here ~~~~>*3~~~~very tricky, right right left means high speed, brake here ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~2*<~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~ ~1*<~~~~~~~ GOING IN ^ DIRECTION My lap times were 51.785 1 49.368 2 49.710 3 47.939 4 49.645 5 47.514 6 I got hang of the truck upon 2nd lap, messed up on the slalom on the 3rd lap, improved upon the mistakes and kicking the truck wide on the 4th lap, braked late on the last slalom on the 5th lap and had to scrub off speed upon under steer, and gave it my all on the 6th lap. My first experience was consistent and I didn't eat or touch any cones to penalize my times. I guess I do drive my truck too much, I love her! It was hot out. We wrapped up the 1st heat within an hour! I was playing around with M3's, a miata, my friend's RSX Type S, a C4 Corvette, a Caterham I believe, the Formula car, a SCCA track built race Firebird (70's) on 13" wide hoosiers, and a few other cars. It was about 100-110 degrees out when I ran my truck. I left her in 1st the whole time and as I passed the finish line, I hard braked to 5mph, placed her in D, rolled to the grid, crawl to the spot in N, and parked in P with the ebrake off (great tip by my friend! dont want the rear drums to sieze). Once the truck is stopped, i took the helmet off and proceeded to pop the hood open. I left the truck running for a bit to keep the engine cool and then turned her off but later on i kept her running til the next run since the iron block keeps in the heat too well. Next time i'll run with less fuel, will clean out the truck the night before, and run with the heater on blast. I didn't take any pics of videos of my participation, but i'll grab a pic of the times later. Thanks for reading
FUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WON MY CLASS! Final Results, #7 - Jul10 - Sun 07-10-2011 although they misspelt my name
AutoX is so fun, more fun when your ride beats a corvette or a lotus (did numerous times in my 350Z) even seen a few stock crx's take down a vette cause the driver was very good. Today on my truck I did jack cause its 13 miles away from me and 90 outside
Finally drove my truck since putting on the 300 steelies. i need an alignment and balanced. But when i get my beemer back from the shop truck is going to be down again for a while.
Much fun man. I love corners so much. I sprayed my grille from flat black to gloss black! and I did the emblem gold
Installed the new radiator, alternator, fuel pump, weber & timing chain kit on my latest truck and it runs GREAT!! Now just needs exhaust
