I'm wondering if air shocks can be used with an air lift onboard compressor on an 84 pickup so I don't have to spend $$$$$$$ to bagg it? I'm @2" in the frt and 3" blocks in the rear.that's low enough for me,I'd just like to raise it up sometimes.

If you leave your suspension as is with the static drop and just add appropriately fitted air shocks, you should be able to just raise it up when you need and lower it back down to your current level, or even more with air shocks just fine. I plan on doing the same thing with my 67 stout.
I want a decently low static drop for basic driving and daily driving stuff...but there are occasions/certain parking garages, etc that would be nice to have at least air shocks to get an extra inch or 2 of clearance.

I put air shocks in a Mercury Montego wagon and it had about 5 inches of suspension travel from completely let out to completely aired up.

At my local napa I can get air shocks all the way around for a little less than 200 bucks. Pick up a portable air tank on craigslist (5-7 gallons) for 15 bucks, and then get a good used compressor...

No reason for that 400 (watching craigslist, Ive been able to consistantly find the stuff to do it all for 300 or so) or less you couldnt have air shocks with control from the cab. because air shocks have less volume than bags, they would take much much less air to deflate and fill aswell..which is nice for air up time.

he isnt planning on using them as bags....riding around at an average inflation with the option to inflate a bit more to gain a couple inches of ground clearance is pretty much exactly what air shocks are for...mainly to air up the rear of trucks/cars when a load is put in them.

he is not trying to lay frame or really go much lower than his static drop..he just wants to be able to go UP a little if needed.

I understood that. Just im sure that having the shocks aired up and comPletely deflated for long periods of time aint good. I wana get some on my nissan since i pulled the middle leaf and want a bit more load carrying capabilities.

Besides a 3" drop aint enought to need to be raised unless speedbumps are like 10" tall. Lol

Well I can tell you the air shocks I am getting for my stout have 8-10 inches of travel. I plan on leaving them right about in the middle 99% of the time, which leaves me about 3" of lift or if I fully inflate them, which, around here will be really convenient for the ****ty driveway entrances and speed bumps we have.

Thanks for the backup. you know what I'm trying to accomplish. The shocks that I plan on getting are Grabriel Hi jackers. They will be fine even if they are fully deflated. Thanks for the opinions and advice.

    scratch the air shock idea

I talked with a suspention tech and he inform me to go with KYB gas adjust(the white ones) for a lowered truck to get the best handling and ride.

KYB gas a justs ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE. It is a pretty standard replacement. Normally a bit stiffer than stock.

    shocks

has anyone used the Belltech nitro 2" drop shocks? They're the same price as the kyb shocks. Any opinions on if one or the other is any better than the other?

Well look at it this way, if ur looking For shocks for the rear and all u have is drop blocks u dont need shorter shocks cuz the shock plate didnt move up. So just buy replacements OR do the air shocks with the onboard compressor. Air lift has one for air shocks and u can get it for about $115 on Amazon.com

i bought the belltech drop shocks but when i was installing them in the front the metal dust cover was too wide enough to fit in the hole. so me and my friend just used a dremel to cut it out

kb4012 and kb4752----someone told me to get the white ones but, these are grey--online they show them white so,I assume these are the correct ones. The price was $35.79 and $36.79 on Rockauto's web site but,O'reilly's matched it.they were 53.99 and 54.99 @ O'relliy's.That was a great savings.I just delt with the manager and he went for it.
