    Okay, so I've lucked into a beyond rusty, but great running 83 Celica with the 22r and a 5-speed. My tired pickup is approaching the half a million mark on the mileage so I'm debating on rebuilding the Celica's carb'd 22r. going high compression, a worked over 20r head, cam and a holly carb sitting on top of it all.. and swapping it, plus the Celica's tranny into the pickup. Anyone see any pitfalls I'm going to run into? advice? anyone else gone from FI to carb? is it going to bolt in or am I going to be slicing and dicing?

    Thanks in advance,

    Justin

    If you don't need it to pass emissions tests than it should work fine I think. It's possible that it has a different length transmission on it in which case you might run into driveline issues, I don't honestly know. I'd get under there with a tape measure and check it out. Also check to make sure the driveline has the same size u-joints or flanges to makes sure it is a direct bolt in. If it runs great, I'd just swap it in there. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. When it needs a rebuild then do the high compression and performance stuff. But that's just me... I haven't done a FI to carb conversion yet, but I am in the planning process to do one. If you go with a Weber carb it should be a piece of cake to do the conversion and get it set up.

    Half million mark?! Wow! I love these trucks!

    Just curious, why do you want to switch to carbs? It seems like there will also be some time involved getting the jetting right and swapping to a low pressure fuel pump/fuel lines, etc.

    I'd drop the 22r without the rebuild, but then I'd have to pull it back out when it finally does go.. especially considering i plan on running giggle gas in the near future, is easier to build it into what i want, drop it in and go to town!

    Honestly? the parts just kind of fell in my lap.. I have no desire to pull the 22re and go through the rebuild process, as its my daily and only transport and the down time would be a major PITA. Don't get me wrong, I'd boost the hell out of my 22re if it didn't have so many miles on it, and keep it FI.. I really just want to go fast and the parts to do so just happen to be chillin at my buddies including the 20r head and intake drilled for a holly!

    I think only the shifter on the celica trans is a little farther back then the truck trans so you gotta cut the hole back a couple inches.

    IDK if a 83 is a laser block. Im pretty sure it isnt. So yea, easy hybrid.

    Should be a W58. The one that works (without cutting) is a 5mge celica supra. Ill bet that you wont have to trim the floor much to use that trans, but should bolt right in otherwise.

    Holley = WIN!

    *that is the holley makin noise in my sig*

    Should make a nice, warmed over motor.

    Sweet, so this is looking total doable.. can't wait to break into this $#@$%! Anywhere besides LC to get high compression pistons and some forged rods? Out of curiosity, whats the best quarter mile time on your truck Raff? Looks like you're having a blast!

    Thanks for the info all!

    Ive only run on the 1/8th in the truck.

    But yea its slow, only got into second gear thru all the runs. :doah:

    BYE's truck is faster, but that bastard had 4.30s :evil:

    My 3.42 open diff street tires ran a 11.1 at the fastest IIRC.
