Hey guys i've had my truck for a month or so it's an 89 Automatic Pickup. The problem i'm having is everytime i'm driving it shifts super late. like the motor just keeps on reving and it won't go into fourth. it just stays in third gear. what could it be? i'm guessing it's the torque Converter? any ideas? thanks

Well, if you can find out service records to see what work has been done it might help you find out through process of elimination. I never buy 'Yotas with automatic trannys. If I had to guess I'd say your tranny needs to be rebuilt or replaced. I'm no mechanic though. Maybe your clutch is bad. Or maybe your truck's seriously under-powered and third gear is commonly needed. R U running larger tires?

Try changing the filter and fluids before you dump money into a rebuild...

I don't very much about the auto trans (4 spd Overdrive electronic) but have read about the shift solenoids inside the tranny giving problems with shifting sometimes, that they don't use a filter, but instead use a screen that can be cleaned off and the tranny refilled, and also with colder weather now, that they have a temperature sensor that delays shifting into 4th "OD" until the fluid is up to temp. also supposedly they also have an altitude sensor that won't let it shift into OD at higher altitudes to maintain engine power so it doesn't overheat the trans. I do know they are pretty spendy if needed rebuilt.
