Can you guys school me on 17" charger steelies? I searched but the information seems scattered and not exactly what I am looking for.

1. What models/years do the 17" steelies come from?
2. What is the offset?
3. Any actual issues with the 5x115 vs. 114.3?
4. Are spacers needed with a 2" spindle drop at full lock?
5. Centerbore good to go or does it need work/spacers?

I am currently running 235/45/17's on some panther juice 5 rims with a FWD offset (45+ish?) and I have issues with the inner lip of the wheel rubbing on the suspension well before full lock. It's bad enough that my truck has basically been sitting for for the past year or two or more because it sucks to drive with no turning radius i.e. no u-turns. So I'm thinking the charger steelies will solve all my rubbing issues and I can just swap my tires over and be good to go. I'm not very schooled on offset, wheels, etc.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

 

I bet your rubbing cause you have too much of an offset. How wide are your current wheels? I'm running 18x8 with a +40 offset and don't rub at all.

Not sure about the steelies, but when I ran 18x7.5 Magnum/Charger wheels I couldn't get the center cap on the front cause of the dust cap (no spacers). But other than that the only issue I had was, no tire shop would touch my truck cause of the different lug patterns.

I had some On my 91. I didn't have drop spindles though. I believe they're a 5x115 but they fit. The holes are just bigger so that's why we can put them on. Just type in charger steelies on cl

 

I think they're 8" or 7.5"............

I've been good, just been working on finishing up school (last term wooohoo!!!) and have not had much time for the little truck. Mostly been working on my 4runner but I'm ready to get back to my little truck; just need to get the bugs worked out so it's driveable.

Is the dust cap an issue with the steelies? Any more information would be really helpful as these wheels are not readily available around here for me to try out so I will probably end up getting some shipped.

 

The dust cap doesn't matter on the steelies. They bolt right on

 

anyone know the hub size of these wheels?

 

so it turns out the center bore is 71.5 or 70.5..........that's huge! I also can't find hub centric rings to go from that to our hub of 60.1

You are thinking WAAAY too hard. Hub centric rings are ONLY needed if using flat faced lugnuts. Standard lugnuts with a 60* taper center the wheel all by themselves, have since the 30's.

 

right but since the bolt pattern is off the wheel will not lug center correctly right?

 

You realize that .7mm/.0275" is split between the distance so it is cut in half at each stud right? That's .035mm/.013", it is such a negligible difference it doesn't matter.

Only if you don't torque your lugnuts. Go figure people have been using acorn nuts for decades without issue so long as they are tight without issue. Dumb/lazy people become statistics.

 

Our trucks center bore is 67.06mm... 60.06mm is for hondas

The Japanese decided to go standard (4.5") while the Americans goes and uses metric (115mm) on this. You'd figure it'd be the other way... go figure

 

Actually they went to 114.3 which is 4.5". Whats goofy is all the US stuff uses the random sounding metric sizes instead of the actual inch measurement. GM now uses 6 on 139.7 instead of the same 6 on 5.5" like they have since the 60's. Change for the sake of change I guess.

 

Soon enough everyone is guna switch over to the metric system.

Ya your thinkin way to much man. I had them on for almost 2 years an put alot of miles on them with no problems. I'd put one lug on then put the opposite side on an it would center the wheel then Id put all the others on an torque them down.

 

can't help it, I spent the first 3 years of my college career in mechanical engineering so I sweat the small stuff lol.........

I found a set for $150 here so I guess I'll just go for it.........

 

Damn I payed 75$ for a set with big ass stock tires. But I got some low pros off eBay for 200 so I was in it 275 all together

 

they aren't very common around here.........and steelies command a higher price in general because a lot of people buy them for snow tires. It's usually about $50 a wheel around here for any steelie except 14's. The $150 includes mounting and balancing though.......
