I hafta say this Aisin 22R carb is a lot simpler than some people think.
Just one part to meter fuel ratio
F.I. to me is more complex, I'm not biased either, I have PGM-FI on my Honda
it's aight, but when I pulled out the carb, ordered the rebuild kit I got pulling this, n that, then cleaning all the metal parts replacing everything in the kit - mostly gaskets n brass parts.
BLOW everything out w compressed air (I used a bike pump)
    adjust float ur set
right now runs as it it was designed- i didn't even untap the fuel mix -
replaced all vaccum lines while I was at it.

I have an 88 Fed n Canada Model in Anaheim
glad to have another local Toyota pickup owner on here

Haha I asked the same questions and every reply was that every engine swap isnt really a plug and play scenario. There are a few people that have done 1JZ, 2JZ, 1UZ, and 2 or 3 RZ swaps and also a couple small block chevy swaps. I am sure you could find a lot of info. Also check out myjzswap.com.

Well there are 2 answers to your question. Answer 1 - If you have good to excellent mechanical skills most engine swaps for this truck would be easy. A handfull of engines fit in the bay without MAJOR mods to frame or firewall. Most can be easily wired cause the toyota harnesses are very simple. So say you drop in a SB350 or 327 very easy except oil pan clearing cross member and then of course tranny and driveline clearances and such. Most people stay with toyota based engines as Dion mentioned above the UZ's and JZ's and there are numerous write ups and such about these engine as they are relatively common swaps. The website he mentioned as well is a very good source. Answer 2- if you have no clue and your mechanical skills are mediocre at best then dont try and or pay someone else. LOL

Answer 2 is for people like me. If an engine swap is done I will have to pay to have it done.

Well if you can find a 22r turbo, rebuild it, upgrade the cam and turbo you might be able to have some fun but for bout the same $$$ you can drop a 350 in and roast all day long. Depends on how much fun and what you want to do with it. Any stock turbo engine on has a certain window of ability to upgrade so after doing research on what kinda money you are going to spend to get a 22r turbo to the point you would be happy with it go research what you will be into a SB or a 1uz or
a 7mgte which will well out perform a turbo 22r being stock.

I don’t want to do anything crazy like put a 350 cuz this is my daily driver and i want to keep the fab as minimal as possible thats why i was talking about the 22r turbo.the less fab i have to do the less down time the car will have and the more i can drive it lol. and dOBER i live like 5 blocks from down town fullerton so im glad to see a Neighbor here lol
