So i have an 89 pickup 2wd and im gettin ready to add a rear sway bar to it and i also wanted to upgrade the front sway bar I know about the bushings but what i was hhoping to do was either get a sway bar from a 4runner and put it on only if its a larger diameter and bolts up to the stock mounts or use the sway bar from a 1 ton pickup with the same requirements is this possible or just a dream??
i think it should be possible.. was thinking of swapping swaybars from my 4x4 thats sitting, bt they might be the same rating..if nt then ill slap mine on too n go drifting!
I got bars from Quickor Engineering, think he still makes bars out of his house. They bolt up to the stock mount holes ,but face rearward,& are way bigger & made of chrome-molly spring steel. If performance is what your after ,these are what you need!
Yeah performance is my goal but i wasnt trying to do anything that had to be custom fabbed to work. I googled "Quickor Engineering" nothing really came up? if ya got a link thatll help! Soon imma go to the local picknpull on my next day off and probally measure the diameter of the 4runner sway bar and hopefully the 1 ton sway bar if i can find them I just really want something that mounts stock.
I dont think the 4 runner one will work. They have completely different arm due to it being 4WD. But since you have a 89 and if i remember correctly from reading some where that the later model pickups have a larger diameter. 94-95 maybe 93 cant remember clearly.
really imma have to look into the 94/95 sway bar then does anybody here have a 94/95 that might be able to give us the diameter of theirs????
If you have the 19MM bar, (most stock base trucks) and bump it up to 24MM bar, you will like it. Its super cheap to do. 4Runner bars wont work. Front or rear. Or you could spend the 200 bucks and just buy a new bar, or two.
well I dont have a rear sway bar so Im planning on putting one in soon but i dont wanna spend a lotta money on the front sway bar when im pretty sure theres a cheaper option out there. So Rafaelli where would i get that front 24mm sway bar from??
I cant remember exactly. I think it was a 91ish truck. Didnt have a motor but I think it was a stock v6 2wd. Junkyard. Im fairly certain all 79-95 front sway bars are interchangable. Just need to get the bushings with it.
i got a 1 ton sway bar from pick-n-pull. havent driven my truck yet though so i have no idea how it feels. should be way better than none at all though
Hmmm ok so next junkyard trip i guess im takin a micrometer to measure te diameter and im just gonna measure all the hilux's i see and ill hopefully be lucky enough to find a 1 ton pickup so i can compare them to the stock mounts on my sway bar.
ok so i bought a caliper yesterday and my sway bar size is 23mm 73trd - how did that 1 ton sway bar workout?
well im good friends with 73 aka (Pedro) and he has the 1 ton in front and a rear sway bar and he said it handles better then before, and two quick things i dont know how big his rear sway bar is, and have fun trying to get the swaybars switched without droping the tortion bars
lowest - man its gonna be a biotch. haha Yeah i was hoping to see if it mounted up in the same spots as my swaybar and how thick it was too??
