ok so ive been eyeballing this cressida near my aunts house for a while..finally stopped by n axd the owner what the deal was..told me 400.. that was before we found:spark plug wires chewed up..maybe the harness is facked already from the rats..hasnt ran in a year n a half because auto tranny gave out.. has good tires and the body still looks str8. im thinking i can grab this for half his price.. heres the choices...

    1. fix her up and go drifting!!!

    2. forget bout the poor car and rebuild my 22r for a truck...

    OR?!?!?

    3. take the car and transfer as much parts as i can to a truck and have one bad hilux!

to do #3, i will have to sell most of my 22r parts for funds for this project(need a better base truck, harness for the swap, mounts, rebuild kit, supplies and tools, etc...) i may know a person thats willing to give up a supra with a shot body..should still be complete!

was thinking of taking the seats, rear drivetrain, tires n wheels, motor, tranny... then either sell or junk the rest..

how different are the trucks and the cressidas on weight, balance???

i wouldnt mind a cressida.. hardly see these cars on the streets here on guam. but it would be even sweeter to kill some of these full blown 4 banger trucks with a sleeper!!!
    opinions and suggestions welcome!

I had a similar predicament myself today. I was trying to decide on a datsun 210 for $275.

What year is the cressida? I bought a 1990 last feb. 7M's suck if the previous owner neglected it. They can be strong/ reliable if properly maintained.

I bought my cressida for $500 with 115K and a blown headgasket. She is really clean so I paid $1000 for a shop to repair it in Feb. Four weeks after the repair the oil pressure would drop near zero at idle. I believe the previous owner kept driving the car with water/oil in the crankcase. She just topped the coolant off when in ran dry. That destroyed the bearings.

I have been driving it like this since march (2 bottles of Lucas each oil change) and the knocking has gotten worse but I love this car. Already have the parts for my motor swap.

Keep in mind that if you have more than one open ended project at a time, chances are that you will never finish any of them.

its prolly the same as yours.. this one has been sitting for almost 2 years..i think the rats got to the harness already so its badd..
going to checxk the supra on the weekend!
i know that these head gaskets are the major problem with this motor, but is there anything else i should look for?

A poorly maintained 7m is it's only weekness. The trannies are really strong/reliable just keep the fluid clean. I havent had any other problems with the car. I have put 15k on the motor with bad bearing and it's still reliable.

OH yeah. It's sucks to change the starter on the 7m supra and cressida.
