Check the air intake tube between the VAFM and TB.
Any leaks will cause an alright drive but ****ty stop and idle.
Does it not die when the engine is in cold start loop?
Get this problem fixed first, no leaks whatsoever. Even a tiny one does bad stuff.

Check the ATF on the other hand.

Lemme know what's up, I've had to battle that problem for a long time.

VAFM is the big silver box with the black thing on top of it. It's on your airbox. This reads incoming air flow.

The TB is your throttle body.

The whole entire engine runs on its on set of air fuel mix ratios and stuff. The VAFM tells how much air is going in, and the computer ECU compensates for whatever else.

    BUT

if there is an air leak anywhere between the VAFM and TB, it'll be off.. the air fuel ratio is messed up, the engine runs kinda weird, and it just sucks ass.

    but anyway

on a Stock 22re, drivers to passenger, it should go like....

Intake filter box>VAFM(silver thing with wire), clamp, coupler, clamp, intake pipe, clamp, elbow coupler, clamp, TB.

The intake pipe (awkward plastic pipe over the radiator) should not have any type of cracks or leaks. check for that.
The coupler on the VAFM, and the elbow on the TB, those should not have any type of cracks or leaks either.

When you reinstall these, make sure the clamps are tight and fit. It's pretty simple.

as long there are no cracks or leaks, the VAFM's reading will be used correctly by the engine's computer and run fine.

Put it this way. If you disconnected the VAFM entirely from the truck, it won't know how much air is entering the engine. So it goes WTF when you start it and it'll just die.

Hmmm... VK56DE, the motor in your Titan, does it have a AirFlowMeter? say you took it off, and when you start it, the truck thinks, wtf, how much am i breathing!? so it doesnt know, and it just runs horribly and get bad gas mileage and no power.

Man, I'm having the hardest time explaining.
