Ok I am getting terrible gas mileage with my 22RE. I am getting about 13 MPG. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Damn maybe a tune up like spark plugs an wires or new fuel filter might help some? But dot quote me let's have some more knowledgable people answer
There was just a thread on this recently. But if it's that bad I would suggest do a code scan and see if anything pulls up. You probably have something causing the engine to dump mucho excesso fuel into the motor. How do the plugs look? Could also be a fuel leak...don't rule that out.
Something as small as a busted vaccum hose to the fuel pressure regulator will cause it to eat fuel. Look closely at it, and or run a fuel pressure test.
I will pull out each plug today but it was changed not too long ago. When I got it smogged it past the fuel aspect of the test so I'm assuming there isn't a leak. I'm thinking about Sea Foaming it. Oh timing was also good on the truck. I know it's running a little rich though and that's what caused it to fail smog at 25MPH.
These trucks should get at least 26mpg stock, with stock tires. If you are running too big or too small of a tire it will affect your mpgs. What did your emission test results say you failed by? There are three things that they look for for tail pipe emissions, did you fail CO, HC, or NOx?
put all your data from your failed smog up. The o2 and co2 mean something as well, thats why they are on the report.
What you are looking for is: HC = un-burned fuel CO = partially burned fuel CO2 = completely burned fuel NOx = high combustion temperatures / high air/fuel ratio
tech should be able to tell you from the numbers your car get, they are right 90% times i bought 3 cars thats failed smog check, i fixed all them myself, some need a new cat some just tune up, depending on the number , timing , cat and o2 sensor sometimes play a big part of failing when you car fails a smog check , it should use more gas , thats why you get 13 mpg, also your wheel alignment is off , that kinda cost you more gas too give up more info , like the smog check sheet , and other stuffs , so we can help more
i dont know about other people , when i buy a used car that im planning to keep i change catrol sythetic 10w-40 the gold bottle from walmart with purlator pure one fitler from pepboys fuel fitler and k&n drop in air filter or name brand intake oem or msd dizzy cap, ngk iridium plug , and ngk wires, sometime i change the ignition coil use msd or accel check for vaccum leaks or replace vacumm tubes brand new denso o2 sensor(s), check both timing and ignition timing, sythetic tranny oil , wd-40 all the bushings after all this you can pickup at least 3-4 more mpg if you have a healthy motor
