timing chain question(newbie)

    sup guys someone i know is selling a 22r timing chain for a 1984 toyota pick up. i havea 1990 22r and was wondering if i can buy his kit and use it on mine? im worried about clearances n stuff lmk please..thanks guys:shrug:

    hacum it wont work? jw everyone else is saying itll work because its a 22r and theyre all the same?

    Its because you've got a 1990 "laserblock" and the guy your trying to buy the tc from doesn't. His block is taller and head shorter, and your block is shorter and head taller. Won't work

    Just to keep folks from confusion I made a little correction, the early engines were a tall block, tall head, used a 98 link chain, the later laser block engines were a short block, short head, and used a 96 link chain.

    early block 11.28"
    early head 3.29"

    late block 11.09"
    late head 3.13"

    thanks for the help guys..i was close to picking itup because it was only 50 bucks and comes with oil pump water pump and everything...thanks guys for your help. when did the differences between motors occur? 1989-1990 was lazer block?

    The transition started around late 84. That was a good price for all the pieces, too bad it wouldn't have worked for you.
