so guys im just wondering how hard would it be to swap in a 22re in place of the inferior v6 engine that these pickups come with? and wuld a tranny swap b necessary as well?

with all the money you use to swap in the 22re... you could put in the 5VZ...

as long it is maintained well, it is just as reliable as the 22RE, but its really picky about being neglected, thats why most people like the 22RE.

the 3.4L 5VZ-FE is the ultimate upgrade for the 3VZ-E. straight up can bolt in place of it, and then some wiring. more hp, more consistent, more reliable then 3VZ-E, and more economic. your truck is V6?

    some BS right there.

no way you could get a 5vz for under 1500 with the harness and ECU

you could easily buy a whole donor truck with a 22re for under $1k.

the 3vz is utter crap, no where near as reliable as a 22re. id love to hear of just 1 3vz thats over 300k. it had a recall on it for the head gasket, head studs, exhaust manifold, and some wiring fire thingy.

a decent cam and some head work will give you more power then a 3vz on a 22re and much much better mpg.

lol wonder if its even possible to buy some junker 1997 4runner for cheap ;)

eh, it all depends on who takes care of the vehicle and actually know about the 3VZ. of course the 3VZ wasnt a good motor from the start, but lets see how long general can keep this motor going til he needs to swap lol

ahh, okay. it wont hurt to grab one. just use the 3VZ until it takes a snike. and also have your 22RE or 5VZ on the other hand.

as soon as I can put my truck down for "repairs" I will have a full 22re with harness to ECU all accessories and trans attached and it will be up for cheap, as my daily driver right now it needs a rebuild.

i'm callin bs right here. my 3vz in my 92 has 312,000 on it. it's getting all the parts off the jdm motor with a bad crank out of the 4runner, i'm thinkin about tryin to rebuild my motor altogether with most of the parts from the 4runner jdm motor.
