well long story short, the engine went boom in my 93 yota last week. well i dont want to put another 22re in it. no power, and i really want to have a v8. for sound, performance, and to just be able to open the hood and see a v8 under there. so what am i looking at? i know that im going to need the obvious, engine, tranny, probably a new rear end. i am thinking about trying to fine a totaled out explorer with everything still attached and swap it over. or i could go with a long block, put a carb on it, and get a c4 tranny. any info would be great. i've been trying to find info about swaps like this, but everything is coming up chevy 350s, and im not a chevy fan. grew up a ford guy and am inlove with the 302. thanks guys. p.s. i know that a lot of you are going to be like "why put a domestic engine in a yota?" or "a supra or lexus 4.3 engine would be easier". im wanting to turn this into a "modern ratrod".
Yeah!!!! do that ****!!!!. Put some american beef into that little Japanese frame. Like a white guy spreading that sweet asain ass...........
its going to be tax return time before i get to purchase the motor. im just trying to get as much info i as can get. so if anyone has any info, let me know.
i'm a ford guy myself. with the distributor in front it should save on the firewall mods as well. i'm a fan of the c4. i got a 302 with a c4 in my 66 mustang. but sometimes it would be nice to have overdrive.
302 should be an easy fit. I'm putting a Chevy small block in mine with stock trans and rear end. Everyone says it'll blow the trans, or rear end, but it'll never have enough traction. I know a guy running 11.8 on turbo 22re with stocks trans/rearend on slicks. I don't see it breaking, but I'll try to. -Ryan
ford is going to be hell to get in. oil pan, pump, pickup. mounts and all. its like a 900 dollar + the motor swap. I looked into it for mine.
Do explain how you got this info. There are companies that make engine mounts and what not... several forum members running v-8s. I've been looking into doing one myself ... do your research with google and you should get more than enough.
honestly, i think with all the cars the 302s came in, you can find a pump with the right sump and pickup location. the engine shouldnt be a length problem. depending on the suspension setup, the headers, oil pan height and the distributor clearing the hood will probably be the biggest challenges. and since its a 93, im going to let you know the 80-83ish brake boosters and masters have a smaller diameter, and will bolt to your firewall. shouldnt be hard to find in the junkyards.
yeah, i'm going to going to have to rip everything out of the engine bay and start from scratch. thanks for the info guys. keep it coming.
??? seriously kid, why do you post? anyways, yes youd pretty much have to gut the engine room and start over. but the old 302 should run on just a few things mounted around the bay; voltage regulator, ignition box, ect. plus your wipers if you keep em, and brake booster. thats why i like old school swaps, they are simple to setup.
I don't know anything bout Fords but the Chevy has an HEI distributor which is 2 wire hook up. Ignition +12 and Tach. For fuel put a lower psi pump in line and leave the tank alone. I'm running an edelbrock 600CFM carb. It's not that hard. My engine is in right now with Transdapt engine mounts from Summit Racing. Radiator is tight but fits and distributor fits with trimming that pinch weld on the firewall.
wtf?!? and this is coming from a guy that says "i make crashing look good" and has a pic of a crotch rocket on its back wheel. i lost my ex roommate and best friend on a bike like that last Halloween. doing the same thing that your doing in that pic. try not to say some little b.s. like we're in high school. GROW UP! anyways, sorry about that... cajun taco, you have any pics of your swap? i would like to see some. trying to figure out everything i'm going to be looking like. its going to be a while till i get to the swap, just trying to get as much info as i can. thanks again guys. mike.
