This 22R started life in a 87’ Hilux (So it is a Laser Block) that had 245K on the clock. I had installed a Robert Shaw 165’ thermostat and the thing stayed closed at 100 miles land popped the head gasket. At the time I was a technician at a high performance and Toyota specialist shop so it was destined to get built. I tore the motor down completely to every bolt. Everything in the motor was magna fluxed.

Jim Grubbs Motorsports did all of the work in the bottom end. The block was tanked, then was bored to 94mm or .080 over and Wiseco 10:1 (94mm) Forged Flat Top Pistons were installed with Wiseco Cro-Mo wrist pins and Wiseco Pro Piston Rings, the crank and rods are forged from a 22R-TEC or (Turbo). The entire rotating assembly was balanced, Tri-Metal rod and crank bearings, ARP rod studs, and brass freeze plugs were installed. On the front of the block a Tsubaki timing chain, guides and tensioner, then a Factory High Volume (Turbo) oil pump, and water pump were installed.

Baker Cylinder Heads did all of the work on the head. The head was tanked then magna fluxed and pressure tested before any work was started. It was then torn down, Milled, and the seats were machined to fit the Oversized 21-4N Stainless Steel Valves 45.7mm Intake and 37.4mm Exhaust. Manganese Bronze valve guides, Viton valve seals, Triple Valve Springs and Cro-Mo locks and retainers were installed. The head was then Ported and the intake manifold was match Ported for improved flow. The Ported Intake and Exhaust ports, and Combustion Chambers along with being Ported were CC’D for more balance. The head was installed with ARP studs, Improved Rocker Shafts, new factory rocker arms and tappets, and lastly a 270-80F Schneider Cam was installed. The motor now has a 268’ .425” lift Torquer Cam. All parts in the head are from Blaze Speedshop.

The intake manifold has a heat insulating gasket installed, it has MSD Super Conductor 8.5mm wires with E3 plugs, and a factory 160’ thermostat. The motor will come with a 9lb Fidanza Aluminum flywheel and a Excedy Stage 1 clutch and pressure plate that has 200 miles on them.

The motor runs extremely strong, and can spin up to 7000 RPM safely. It will need to be run on 91 octane only because it is a high compression engine. It has been run on Valvoline Racing 10W30 high zinc oil since new. It was installed in a Prerunner/ Chase truck and has 13K miles on it. The truck went through the traps at El Mirage with long travel and 33” tires at 138 MPH with a 38mm Weber and the 268 cam. Before my engine cage restricted me to a single down draft carb there was a set of Weber 40mm Side Drafts and a 270-80F Schneider Cam installed and Dyno’d at 195RWH with 33’s.

I am selling the motor because my wife won’t let me buy anymore parts for my Chargers until I sell my last motor I have laying around.

The price for this engine is $2500.
