Thanks, I think a lot of people are the same way they just won't say it. When I describe it to people I can tell they can't see it in their head like I can. As for the roof. I actually have thought about chopping it. I am thinking about buying this Hilux cab off a truck that amazingly is still in a local salvage yard. For the roof idea and also maybe for some replacement metal, who knows.

I hope to get more updates from the shop soon.

I'd attempt splicing in a 4runner's rear hatch door, to get a roll down rear window

Interesting, but I'm going for a more traditional hotrod look. Also the hassle of doing that would not have a big enough benefit for me.

Niice. Will that subframe be bolt-on or you gonna weld it in?

I'm not sure. I am not doing the work. I am getting these pics from the fab shop doing the work. He knows what I want so I let him work out the details.

I am using the original bed. It will just be very shortened and narrowed like an old Model A or T bed.

Curious why you're mocking things up with the 22re instead of the 2jz you plan to use?
Also, what are you going to do with the front suspension? Supra/Lexus SC subrame like you have on the rear?

I didn't set the 22R back in it. This is at the fab shop in Lubbock, I live in Dallas and he sends me updated pics. I will deliver the 2JZ and W58 soon so he can set it in there and do the mounts and floor. The front suspension will remain factory coil frontend. I have already replaced the factory coils with modified drop coils.

So you're going through all this and keeping it manual non R&P steering setup?

oh, rack an pinion would be sooo sweet! but you've gotta change quite a bit from what i've seen and researched.

what is is, a Pinto setup narrowed down a bit?

What do you mean a Pinto setup? This is all happening with Toyota parts. The whole frontend is original Hilux. The rear is everything from under a 90 Supra.

no, the easiest rack and pinion swap is from a Pinto...

if you are trying to keep completley Toyota it will be harder to r&p. Might as well just keep the manual gearbox.

For a full-out custom build like this one I don't see why you can't make basically any other setup work. Like if there was a desire to add in the front subframe from the Supra/SC to match the rear. It's not uncommon for people to add extra joints to the steering shaft linkages in order to get around obstacles like headers, engine mounts, etc after an engine swap. The front chassis of this build is being lengthened anyways, so there would be even more room to make this possible.

I just know for me, if I've got a Supra IRS and a future 2JZ, for sure I'd also want the supra IFS to match....possibly just so I could more easily find replacement parts after the first time I put it in a ditch or into a curb :silly:

Well as I see it the front end will be light enough that the standard steering will be good for now. I will have to lengthen the steering shaft to connect with the box again. Who knows, down the road I may decide to go with a full aftermarket hotrod IFS, not sure. I will have to see how this performs as is and see where things need to improve.

Keep in mind that this build will forever only use Toyota or aftermarket parts. If it came from any other vehicle other than a Toyota or Lexus, it will not find it's way onto my truck.
