I replaced the front crank seal, but it turns out it wasnt really leaking that bad, the front timing cover has a crack in it. Looks like the chain has rubbed from the inside or something has been crashing around in there. It's a bit strange as there is no timing chain rattle or other strange noises, so I cleaned it up and put JB weld over the crack. Seems to have fixed the problem.
I dont really want to spend to much time or money on the engine, as I would like to replace it with something a bit more modern. The head on an 18 r is truly horrable, pre crossflow, intake and exhaust bolted together, cast iron, 2 timing chains, that said it goes really well, the fuel injection has brought it to life.

Just been driving around doing a bit of turning on the ECU. The engine goes like a rocket, very easy to smoke the tires at the lights, and soo much fun in the wet.

Yep, another on the to-do list, as its been shorten the gas tank wont fit back in the hole. I was thinking of getting a fuel cell and mounting it in where the gas tank used to be, but as you may of guessed this is a real budget bulid, so Ive been keeping my eyes open for a cheaper option for now.
Do you like the wheels? They look better in the photos than they do on the truck.

Why not relocate the tank to the back of the frame? Should fit between the frame rails?

And honestly those wheels dont do anything good for the truck. But for free fckit

I looked at fitting the tank in the back, but its just a little too big, I might be able to find a tank off something else that will squeeze in there. You right those wheels are hideous. still looking for a bumper too

I finally found a bumper and done a few little jobs, brake pads, tires, drive shaft bearing and universals. The old tires were flat-spotted badly and would shake the sh!t out of everything Screen Shot 2020-01-16 at 1.20.02 pm.png

Ive done a little more work on shorty, I pulled the 95 Hilux seats out and put them in the white 1980 and dropped some seats our of a Peugeot 405 into shorty, They fit great and are way more comfortable than the Hilux seats, they also sit a bit lower. you feel like you are sitting IN the seats rather than ON them. photos to come my camera is flat....:-(

They guy said it was there before he bought the farm, so a long time I guess, unfortunately, its got a broken crankshaft, so I've got a bit of work to fix it. The plan is to get it in the shorty Hilux which will give a bit of a horsepower boost, and take a lot of weight out.

I recently installed those headlights too! There are a lot out there that look pretty much the same (mine were listed as for motorcycles). I dig the halo, the switchback turn signals, theyvseem bright, but my truck hasn't left the driveway since installing them, so I can't exactly tell you how bright they are at night.

They have a slightly different wiring requirement than our trucks use; Liquidhandwash has a wonderful Instructable on the conversion. He posted the link in my build page somewhere.
