I am really looking forward to this progress. I remember seeing your YouTube video on the Toyota mini’s Facebook page and I ended up here. You are really inspiring me to go 1UZ in my pickup. I am curious about the exhaust headers as well.

That is one thing that about the 1UZ swap is getting the exhaust situation sorted out. Everything seems straight forward. I know the wiring for the non-vvti one is really simple and I imagine the newer one can’t be much hard since the the video covered the immobilizer portion plus you get OBD 2 assuming you run the port and associated wiring

Yotarip is my wiring guy but he does say the wiring for the vvti is still pretty simple. We haven't added in my OBD2 port but it's only three or four wires, I just need the plug. Also you have to buy a transmission emulator to unleash the full potential of the beast. As far as exhaust we used the narrower sc400 oem manifolds and just chopped the flanges off and start building our own exhaust system from there.

Wow appreciate the quick response lol. I might have to get in touch with him and see what things to expect and what’s all different. Gotta source a swap first lol

As for the transmission emulator. A few quick questions. I remember reading about how the guys on club Lexus used a emulator for swapping to manual on 98+ models but they sourced the emulator boxes from a russian company. Is that where you got yours? I am taking notes where to get these bits so I do the swap, I can be prepared. Plus this might help out anybody else out in the future.

That's exactly where Yotarip and I got ours. Russian cat named Yuri cracked the ecu and made full power possible. I have a 99 ls400 and I raced Yotarip in his 3uz mk3 Supra and beat him fairly easily. He installed the emulator and I can't keep up with the car now. Definitely does it's job flawlessly.

I was thinking last night (dangerous, I know) and realized I have a stock power steering and a stock manual steering assembly at my disposal.

Did you add the electric PS to a manual rack? I read back through and didn't see it mentioned.

Exactly, the manual rack is still in the truck. But it feels like any other power assisted cars steering. Silky.

Perfect, thanks. The GS 400 I bought has an electric PS motor so that'll be awesome.

Finally the weather is breaking and I can get started on my Independent suspension swap. Parts coming in almost daily.

Nice project any updates on this?
I’m definitely going to try the EPS (I have a Yaris rack already)
How do you tell which ECU you have?

    Thanks

Thanks for the link. Even one post in 6 months proves useful at this site.

I've got my engine out of the GS400 and now sorting out the head rebuild. I don't know much but I know it's time for that.

At this point the work is going slowly but the rear suspension mounts are coming along. between work, family and our new baby the truck is not getting much attention but it's still in the works.

It's gonna be epicc when it comes out. We're into the suspension now so itsi gotta be right if I'm gonna have a truck that's about that 300hp and 150mph the 1UZ can pump out. Don't want to feel like im in a freight car lol.

I hear that, the exact reason I'm watching this build. Landed myself the most potent 1UZ ever produced, not looking to die driving it!

I hear that too - the roads here in the UK are terrible in some rural areas too!

What have you done up front to keep it steering right?

I've broken the front suspension down but I haven't put it back together yet. I haven't gotten to that point yet but it's coming soon.
