Hello All, I just started having a problem with my 1988 not starting all the time. I put the key in the ignition and sometimes it starts and sometimes I have to try it a few times before it will. I got the truck started and went to an auto parts store to get the system checked. The battery was new and it tested good, tried to test the starter and the solenoid wouldn't even clicking, so they said the starter was bad. Well I got a new starter, installed it and still the problem exist! I don't want to keep throwing parts at it.. Has anyone ever had an issue with the ignition lock cylinder or switch going out? I priced one as high as $145 and as low as $120. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Cliff
Well, I believe I have fixed it. It wasn't the ignition lock cylinder. I noticed my master cylinder was low of fluid. I started looking for the leak and found it started leaking internal under the dash at the plunger rod. Replace the master cylinder, bleed the air and so far so good..
The hard to start problem with these trucks is the low voltage wire from the ignition to the starter, not enough volts. I had posted the problem & fix! A leaking clutch master is a problem to address, but is not related to the other!
