Im looking to purchase a 79-83’ model Toyota Pickup. My intent is to keep it original and not a crawler. I have found a truck that I’m interested in, but I’m unsure about the price for this particular truck. I drove an 87’ yota about 8 years ago and I want to get back into one. I need advice on this vehicle....

    1983
    203 k miles
    $6,700

Interior/extiror is in grate condition, all original equipment, runs and drives well. There was a small amount of rust near the back left portion of the cab. A small hole (paper clip sized) along the seam as formed there. The actual bed itself hardly had any. The top of the cabin (common rust spot) had been repainted to match the rest of the truck. I’ve got a few more photos here to look at. There is some rust in the engine bay.

Is this price in the right ballpark? The seller has been offered $5,500 and $5,700 by other folks which he turned down. My concern is that major work will need to be done to the engine and other components due to the mileage.

It's more than I would pay, but it's cleaner than I usually find. The doors have been cut for speakers (that's not the stock location last I checked), and I can't 100% say, but the radio looks aftermarket but old.

If it's an SR5, it's probably pretty close to the price range, if it's not, I'd be in around 4,500 for that mileage. I know it's low, but a LOT of shit could be wrong you can't see. If you see it in person, pop the oil fill cap while the engine is running. If you can feel warm wind blowing out of there, the piston rings are bad. See if it bogs when you step on the gas, etc. Let it idle for 10 minutes and see how the temps are. They should be able to idle for damn near forever without overheating if in proper shape.

IF it's legit and mechanically sound, as in you can document the service done for the last 50k-100k miles, all transmission and clutch work, VALVE ADJUSTMENTS, etc, then the price is about right. Still try to get it lower if you can.

Cleaner than most, but I'd say that's a $5k truck, not an almost $7k truck like the seller's asking.

At 200k the engine likely still has lots of life left in it, I wouldn't worry as much about the engine if it's running good right now. Based on what appears to be a fresh coat of black on the rear frame and leaf spring hangers, I'd try to see what type of work's been done to it in the past -- like if you're running all original stuff such as steering joints/bushings, clutch hydraulic system, clutch, seals on your differentials, etc then you're looking at a lot of soft parts that are likely brittle after 35yrs - looks like the seal on the t-case is already leaking. I don't think the truck in question is even an SR5 - I believe SR5's had a tach in the gauge cluster - look at the blue one I linked to below.

To me this one looks more like a $6k truck and there isn't even any description in the ad! 1979 w/ only 94k. To me this one looks like a MUCH better specimen in the $6k range.

Or even half the price with this one:

I contacted this guy a few months ago when he first put it up for sale. I'd be all over it in a heartbeat but I just bought a new house and my wife would literally kill me at this point

Yeah that is the truck I’m looking at. The seller has only owned the truck for a little over a year and hasn’t done anything to it. He knew very little about what the previous owner had done too. To be fair his first language wasn’t English so he didn’t talk much. So what you see and read is all the info.

I’m looking for a daily driver. I commute to work 12 miles a week so I’d rather do it in style. I know little about michanics, but I want to and have the time to do it.

I checked out that 79’ in person. It was like showing up to the date with the chick you met online only to find out her pictures were taken ten years and 25 pounds ago.
