Exactly what I said, it's definitely a performance truck so the Rocket Bunny look definitely works in my opinion.

Been busy finding the formula to do a bolt on rear disc brake setup for the mini.

Ingredients; A fellow toyotamini enthusiast brought a couple of points of misinformation to my attention. I made the corrections in red text. I apologize for the confusion and sloppy info. (Corrected year info on rotors and calipers)
    1. Cut the drum brakes backing plates off.
    2. Toyota 4x4 caliper mounting brackets from ebay ($24.00 shipped)
    1. 2002-2003 Ford Explorer 4x4 front rotors ($20 junkyard gold, practically new)
    2. 82.8mm to 67.1mm hubcentric rings from ebay ($8.00 shipped)

    1. 1995 4Runner calipers with pads. ( $26 junkyard)
    2. I'm not good at double flaring brake lines so I opted for 3an stainless braided lines with import brake line adapters from Speedway Motors ($60.00 shipped) Update! The 12" brake line (passenger side) is a touch too long. I would recommend using a 10" brake line.
    1. Toyota T100 or Landcruiser Master Cylinder ( will purchase soon.

Will be installing this setup on Saturday morning. Will update.

How do you keep your white shoes from getting dirty while working on the truck?

Very nice. So the 01 Ford Explorer front rotors have the same bolt pattern as the toyotas ?

    Yep! all year explorer's do.

ALSO!! This setup has no provision for the parking brake! Keep that in mind. I'm working on figuring out how to fab up a pinion brake and installing a center mount handbrake.

I'm looking into using a motorcycle disc brake and caliper.

Very interested in your E brake setup. How is the disc fastened ? Is that a stock Toyota rear dif ?
I like this whole thing you got going on !

That's not my setup. Just a pic I snatched off the web. They make a pinion brake for toyota 4x4 transfer cases but not the third member. I'll have to fab up a bracket that mounts to the diff bolts.

Did your 8.8 rear end mount up to the Toyota leaf springs with no modifications? I am planning to installing a 8.8 for a 1998 Ford Explorer with factory disc brakes on to my 1990 pickup 2 wheel drive.

My 8.8 came from a mid 80's ford mustang which has a 4 link setup, no leaf springs. I have to cut off the link mounts and weld on a spring perch. The explorer 8.8 has spring perches and I think people are finding the mount to be similar to the Toyota mounts and close enough to mount. That's telling me that they are off a little and probably put the spring in a slight bind. Probably would be smart to relocate the spring perches in the correct position. The perches can be bought for $30 for the pair. Takes a little effort to cut off the existing perch. Second problem with the explorer rear is that the third member hits the gas tank. Peolpe simply pound the tank with a hammer to clear the diff. I'd relocate the tank of install a fuel cell with more fuel capacity.

Thank you for the information. My 8.8 came out of a '98 Explorer with factory disc brakes and the handbrake mechanism is inside the rotors. I do plan to change the factory tank to fuel cell where the spare tire is mounted. The LS is going to hungry for fuel.
