I'll say - "project"! Probably more than I would want to undetake, but thanks for the link. I hadn't seen it. If I was a little closer ...
Thanks Dennis. Actually what I am hoping for is someone who knows of one personally and can speak to the shape it is in, and what it might need. I am not sure how to go about determining if a Craigslist ad is legit and truthful. Especially on something like this. So many things to consider. Leaks, appliances, etc. But I do appreciate the links. There is a 5 lug in upstate NY, only a few hours from me. Not sure how big a job, or how available replacement axles are.
Stay away from the 5 lug axle. Major recall due to axle shafts breaking. You want the 6 lug ff axle. They were pretty much standard from 1986 and on. To retrofit a 5 lug to 6 lug can cost anywhere from 2-4K. The 6 lug ff axles are getting harder to find.
I see them for sale all the time on CL here in CA. Might be worth it to make the trek or ship it in order to get a rust-free specimen from the South if you're planning to keep it alive and use it.
Not adverse to doing that, certainly. Hoping someone comes across something that they can vouch for the quality of, as an independent person. Looking into maybe paying for an inspection, if I come across a good deal.
It's a long drive, but they pop up for sale occasionally out here, too. 1993 Toyota winnebago http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=50476637
