I'm wondering if anyone has swapped the location of their intake and battery. It seems like it would lower intake temps and increase throttle response all while cleaning up the engine bay. I'm not sure why toyota put the intake on the side they did. All I can think of is that they wanted the battery on the passenger side for better weight distribution. Anyone got some insight?

I did the swap in mine... I hated the idea of picking up all that heat from the radiator and if I was going to make my own intake building it on the short side was easier and cheaper...

Mine is just a 2.75 inch elbow and the AFM attached to it. I took a piece of SS tubing I had that was about 1" OD and bolted it to the engine off the intake and then screwed the AFM to that. I of course used a AFM adapter to use a 3" intake filter. I put a small filter on the oil breather seperately.
You have to open up the harness that has the wiring and rerun it to the other side.
the battery wires have to be rerun to the ground and starter including the lead into the fuse box under the hood.
Works great sounds good and I think it made a bit of difference.

If you have AC like I do the lines are kinda in the way but I was able to bend ever so slightly the one down more and I used the foam pads on them to protect the lines from chaffing on the bottom of the AFM and taped them in place so they wouldn't move with electrical tape.

I'll go take a pic now and attach it to this post....

Oh ya and I don't think your passenger side weight theory holds up... the truck was designed originally as a right hand drive so in the design it was the driver side

MTB how did you get your battery so far back? Is the optima smaller than a normal batt? Also where did you get the battery mounts and did you drill the holes for them?

Nvm I'm doing the swap now and I just used two stock holes on that side to hold the battery. It's going pretty well except for the + cable but the battery placement is temporary till I buy an optima battery and move it to the bed.

Here's mine with a supra afm and oddysey battery. All you need is a 2.75 to 3 inch 45 degree silicone coupler.

you will need a 2.75 to 3 inch only for a celica AFM the 22re one is 2.75 to 2.75...
The battery fit no problem... I originally had it mounted using the stock battery hold down. There is even a place on the rad support to bolt it to, you just need a hole for the rod in the innner fender. I moved my overflow can forward by drilling another hole in it's mount and bolting it closer to the rad support for more room. I ended up switching to a different battery holder and bolted it to the inner fender underneath.

Cin...take an old pair of jumper cables and cut the clamps off. Instant large gauge wire thats 8-12 feet long. I did that for my stereo lead on the 78.

I just did mine pretty easy
i used some Kicker silver 8 and 4 gauge wire for new wire.
but i think napa carries battery cable for like 2.00 a foot
and welding cable works well also

Well for my purpose it is fine. The wire inside is roughly a 0 gauge. And its just going to be powering my headunit and small sub amp. The amp only requires an 8g wire. This was free.

When I relocated the battery to the bed of my truck I went to a local car stereo shop & bought my wire. I used 4 gauge & havent had any problems at all. Here are some pics of what mine looks like...

When I relocated my battery & mounted my intake I also hid a lot of the stuff that was on top on the valve cover...
