Hello all, I just picked up a 1986 Toyota 2wd Longbed with the 22r outta Utah for use in Las Vegas. Plans are to get it running tip top and pass smog then move on to a little suspension work. I'm generally gonna use it as a run around truck and if the AC can be saved I will end up using it as a DD during the hot summer days when I don't wanna commute on a motorcycle. It will also be my backup DD for the wife if I happen to break the 96 cherokee she drives, doing a little bit of wheeling. My first task it to figure out all my vacuum woes, I have a copy of the 85 service manual but it is not very detailed with vacuum lines in relation to the extra crap having to do with the AC. When I bought the truck it idled like crap but drove great, I found a couple vacuum lines missing or undone and fixed a few and it ran and idled great. After I got some extra vacuum line I notice some things were plumbed wrong. I attempted to get things a little more sorted and bam now it won't run well at all and I don't know how to get back to where it was. Anyone in the Vegas area have a 22r that I can reference in person? Anyone had a 22r w/ AC that can take some pictures for me? I am not going to delete anything emissions related as here in Vegas we do smog. Here is a photo of the truck when I rode bike up to Utah yesterday to pick it up, it was 20* out when I got to it so the warm ride home was great.
Just wanted to welcome you to the TM site! I recently had my truck in the shop to tune my Weber. The Weber hasn't been tuned in almost 7 years. I hope that somebody here will be able to help you. My truck goes through Smog II where not only the "sniffer" is attached, but my truck is placed on a dyno to create a load on the engine and is tested at 15 & 25 mph. To avoid any unnecessary attention, I keep all of my smog components intact. Enjoy hanging out with us! Rick
Well I have saggin shoulders tonight, I haven't made any headway on the vacuum issues. I really wish I wouldn't have even messed with it for now but then again it has to be made right for me to pass smog. I put an ad up on craigslist to find someone locally who has a truck I can look at to get a good idea of what goes where. I look forward to using the AC but it really does complicate this a lot. I'll have to get some pics of my current vacuum setup to maybe lure in some curious minds but I left it for the night. It is idling rich enough to leave a 3 foot black streak on my garage floor, runs through the gears great though.
I got more lines figured out! It idles great again but has a slight hesitation off idle whenaccelerating Only have one questionable area left I think, this photo is the area and the two short lines each about 2.5 inches long(orange) and the remaining port that is plugged with a short line and screw(green). Don't worry about the fat line undone, I pulled it for the photo.(red x)
I have a 22r with AC but I don't believe it was put in at the factory, could take some pics if it would help you out
That would definitely help, I just need pictures of the lines on the passenger side of the carb. Mainly the area above and maybe some of the lines coming out above the AC compressor. I found some fuel in the lines hooked up to the manifold ports and ordered a new AAP to hopefully fix that. Then I can recheck all the lines again. I have been disconnecting and swapping some around the manifold ports to help it run. I am trying to get ahold of a paper copy of the FSM for 1986 as it is definitely different that the 1985 FSM I have on softcopy. Ordered some belltech drop-spindles and 3" blocks and a felpro gasket kit. Will maybe order some rear springs and DJM lower control arms as well but then I need shocks too. I might ride on stock till they blow and then go with some bilstein drop shocks. I have some 16x8 rims on my 96 cherokee that I may slap on here. I want some 15x8s for the jeep as 33s and 35s are cheaper in 15s. Then I can slap the 16s on the toyota with some 205s or so. Here is the jeep
Nic3 bike. Just picked up a 09 cbr600rr phoenix edition myself. If you want to run classic rod tags you wont need to smog. Just limited to 4000 miles a year. But there are ways around that lol. Welcome to the site. If you use instagram you can find me under kuruption702 or hastagged pics #beyondspexj
Well I need some advice folks, the truck came with a shell but I couldn't fit it with the bike. I have the opportunity to go get it but idk if I will keep it mounted or not. It fits the truck VERY well but idk if I want to take the hassle to store it when I need it off for hauling a bike or something. Lemme know what your think, original picture from the for sale ad.
Ordered some more suspension stuff, got DJM 3" lower arms and belltech 3" leaf springs. I have no clue if I will be too low in the rear but if needed I can add a 1.5" lift shackle I hope. Almost pulled the trigger on some moog balljoints but figured I will check out what the current ones feel like when I put the spindles on. Not looking forward to ordering new rims and tires for the Jeep to free up the 16s it has now for the yota.
