I'M NEW TO THE WHOLE FORUM THING NOT TO BUILDING TRUCKS.
IM 23 YEARS OLD AND THIS IS MY 3RD SO FAR.
BEAR WITH ME IM NEW TO THIS I HAVE AN 84 XCAB ON 33S WITH A 22R CARB AND A 94 SOLID AXLED ON 36S WITH UNFORTUNATELY A 3.0 SLOW.
ANYWAY I BOUGHT THIS GEM ABOUT 4 OR 5 MONTHS BACK I SAW IT ON CRAIGSLIST IN MARYLAND FOR 1200 BUCKS AND HAD TO HAVE IT.
ON THE EAST COAST THERES NOT TOO MANY TO EVEN LOOK AT LET ALONE TO BUY ONE.

ME AND MY BUDDY DROVE DOWN THERE AND SNAGGED HER FOR 900 BUCKS...PROBABLY COULD OF GOT IT CHEAPER IF MY BUDDY KEPT HIS MOUTH SHUT:verdict_in:.

HAD SOME ROT IN THE FLOORS AND ROCKERS BUT IT WAS SOMETHING TO WORK I WENT TO SCHOOL FOR AUTOBODY AND WORKED AT A SHOP I KNOW MY WAY AROUND SOME FAB WORK AND PLASTIC.

Nice find on the 74.The body looks pretty straight.Whats the plan for that one?Love the 84.Do the chevy1500 rear springs give it more lift?I like the height in the back.I have a dropped 87 that's got a few goodies in it and a stock 92 also dropped but my latest project is my lifted 91 4x4.it's ifs with a 4" suspension lift 3" blocks in the rear and shackles that add about 1"1/4.I would like to go higher though. Can I see more pics of your rear suspension on the 84?Did you do all that tube work yourself.Looks real nice and clean. That rig looks ready for some 38 boggers maybe.

The plan for the 74 is bagged and bodied on 20s.
A new school twist on an old school truck engine swap the whole nine

the 1500 springs give you like 2-3 inchs of lift thats why i added blocks in the back and made my own shackles
ill look for some good pics to put up for ya

the tube work i did with my ex buddy he had a isuzu pup that would have been a cover truck if it ever got done but he gave up on it and i ended up with the frame,,im using the stock frame on the 74

Kind of funny how things change. Used to be taller is better now were all trying to go lower! My krawler used to be about 4-5" lift with 35's stuffed 37's on and dropped it an inch or so now dropping another 2-3. Guessing frame will be "stock" 4runner height with 37's.
The 63" chevies are strong springs, low lift but LONG so tend to drag off road when challenged. I got rid of the double shackle foray then the lift block. You can stuff a lot with a little lift, just takes some planning ahead!

You can stuff alot of tire it all depends on if you got the drivetrain to back it up thats why im sticking with 33s on the white one i have 36s on my other truck and i hate them

Yup, gotta be able to handle it. Longs, cromo hub gears, Detroit.... Just installed 6-shooters with Chilkat double shear steering..... List keeps going. Got WAY more into the front axle of my krawler then my entire stout including purchase price and shipping...

Ok, sorry for The hijack, back to the hilux!

So i wanted to wait and not rip it apart, since i had just finished my white truck and maybe take a little break for awhile....well one weekend my buddy went to my shop when i was at work and the truck ended up in the garage with the bed ripped off of it and that was the begining of my new mess we call a truck....:d

once we got it all torn down to bare frame we started going over it and there was absolutely no rot at all on the entire frame , which was very surprising considering it was from maryland and the fact almost every toyota on the east coast needs patch panels.

we started by making the carrier bearing cossmember out of 1.66 same stuff i used for my tube bed on my 84.
and we cut out the rear tire carrier and added 2 cross members out of 2x3 1/8 inch wall. we don't want the truck to be a boat anchor it didn't need to be too crazy.

started on the triangulated four link arms and the driveshaft hoop.
at that point we were still not sure if we were going to do with the bag set up..

were only on the second weekend on the build at the point and were hauling on it i think i soon come to realize that building a truck layer out is about a million times more work than restoring/modifying a lifted truck

My buddy who is helping me with the lay out of this truck has a 99 s10 bagged and bodied on 20s with almost a full frame and 350 fuel inject swap
ill get a pic of it next time i head over to his house

it was time to start making the notches, instead of doing the normal ugly looking square notches we wanted to go with something with a little flow like the old boats. so we went with some round notches so i grabbed the plasma cutter from my buddy and started to make it all happen
we only on weekend 2-3 at this point

i slugged the notches so they didn't want to get all wavey when i started to burn the top and bottom in.

i got the notches together except for the bottoms ill do that when i can flip the frame over and weld them fully i got the upper and lower link arms done..
we went from doing a cantilever triangulated 4 link to a bag on bar and no its a 6 link with bags on bars in the rear for a more comfortable ride.

i made the tabs for the rear to hold the 4 link bars and we started to set the truck up to be squared for it all to get mocked up

i made the dog bones to mount to the rear arms
and i decided to box the rear rails between the cross members to strengthen it up a little more

set the cab on end reinforced the cab so it wouldn't buckle when i cut the floor out.
cut it all out and set it on the truck to get the effect of where we're at and we can start building the floor.
put a wheel on it to see how much cutting needs to be done to tuck 20's
the rockers and inner rockers are so rotted we have to raise the cab to the proper height with bottle jacks on all four corners because there;s nothing left to get it square.

way worse then i thought when i first looked at it...

made the lower four link mounts so they'd slip over the driveshaft hoop so it'd be easier to adjust to mock everything up and it'll be much stronger.

drilled a hole thru all the tabs on the rear so that i can feed the brake line straight though them to keep everything cleaner and easier.

attached the lower arms and the hard part was figuring out how to make the mounts for the upper bars it took a little more time.
