Here is the thing, my 93 with the 22re (168k) has been having some issues. It has begun running like crap. It runs ok, but the moment I pull it out ok gear and apply the brakes it dies. If I give it throttle as I apply them it stays running. Where do I begin to look.
sounds exactly like what nverenufedge's truck started doing like 2 days ago. i don't think he's figured it out either yet.
I replaced the wires a couple of days ago, could it be a vaccume problem. plugs, cap, and coil are also relatively new too.
@ jaybee - so if the cat is plugged that could be it, i was thinking about it and i was thinking i just did the cat, but a few months ago i swapped for stock exhaust and i have no idea about this cat
^ this maybe... If it was a plugged cat more than likely it would idle fine but have no power and you would hear blow by outta the manifold. Auto or stick? And also with the mass air flow. Thats always a likely suspect as well.
It is a stick. I drove it up the cajon pass two weeks ago and it had no power. Today driving up a small hill it sounded like it waa bogging down.
so today I replaced the cat and there was no change (the cat was old but not that clogged). Figured screw it and pulled the valve cover to check valves, vaccume lines, timing. When I pulled the intake tube there was and oilly film in the throttle body and intake tube. So I adusted the cleaned the maf, got the valves right (or really close) and got the timing set. I also adjusted that valve on the intake that has the bolt with the spring. That seemed to help it, but its smoking a bit now and it smells like it might be running rich. any hints on where the oilly film could be coming from?
pcv (positive crank vent) valve. Vents the build up of blow-by from the crankcase via a fitting on the top of your valve cover which has a line going to the intake. If the cat had been clogged bad enough to kill the engine it wouldn't run well at all and you'd more than likely have a check engine light on from your O2 sensor readings. Its also possible that your O2 sensors are slow to the point where they are no longer able to provide accurate real time readings and the delay on them is enough that after stopping a new reading isnt up so the computer continues to try to trim fuel causing starvation and dieing when you go to stop/idle. With a noticeable oil buildup in the air intake and throttle body my bet is definitely on idle air passage/valve.
Engine rebuild ?'s so I dropped my engine at the machine shop and the engine guy noticed that my number 3 piston wall was scored, thus creating my oil problem and blow by. So They are going to disasemble the engine today and let me know tomorrow, but the block have to be bored. So now here is a question, where should I go for a rebuild kit. I had an engbldr head (but they said the seats were poorly machined) and timing kit already. I want a nice reliable daily so should I go with a basic rebuild or would getting the extra one thats a little more higher performance.
