Ok, admittedly, it could be bigger but I'm really gettin pissed off at the fact that my O2 sensor flange is blocked by a little thing.... ...when i back it up to the cat like so.... ...this little thing. So... Im calling a local welding shop in the morning and having them move it for me and hopefully i can get the install finished. I'm just venting here. lol
LOL ouch. what's up with the U-bolt there? can you spin the pipe any? course it wouldn't help much since the O2 sensor should be pointed slightly down and you can't do ANY angle there.
Well, actually, as far as i know the truck has never been messed with and the O2 sensor was on the top of the stock pipe when i took it off. i was thinking about spinning it, but because the flange to the cat is only a two-bolt deal I would have to spin it 180 degrees, leaving the O2 sensor exposed at the very bottom of the pipe. So now its all on and i had to do a little bit of fabbing... This is probably the last time i buy some random header off Craigslist unless i know for sure it's a good brand. But live and learn. I also have to go get another crush gasket for the cat, the one i got was like an eighth of an inch too big. I just shoved it in, its a constant small leak that i'm sure will go away when i get a new one with
Extreme fail yo. The Ubolt was for a sleeve in the middle of the pipe in between the end of the header and the cat. (the chrome thing is something i bought at the same time, a little four barrel to side draft conversion thing) I didnt note this earlier, but the "mods" i was talkin about was that i had the O2 sensor port moved two inches foward and shortened it 5 freakin inches. I ended up payin 60 bucks for it, but i shouldve just done it myself, cause i can do that, i just wanted it to look clean. So this thing was a really big fail. the guy i bought it from was running it on a little 2wd standard cab so i figured that it wouldnt have been THAT much different right? But since i had all the stuff and already pulled off the stock gaskets on the manifold, i just went for it. But now i have bugs to fix. there's a leak in front of the cat because i fount that the stock pipe doesn't mount COMPLETELY flush to the cat, but that's how the flange on the new one was made, so i have to modify it. I'll take pics of that when i take it BACK off. Then, i have to make some new dents in it or see if i can heat it up enough to bend a little more because it hits my torsion every once in a while. and after all that i think i'll be ready to buy a new O2 sensor for it, it was rattling and ****ed itself up, so i had to do some ghetto mods that i figure i'll fix when i bag it. lol (not for a long while) but that made the check engine light come on. do any of you know if depth of the o2 sensor would affect its ability to throw the right signal? I just heard that it might from one of my know-it-all buddies.
yep that truck really needs that o2, so if its mounted like crap and pulling air from outside the pipe its going to throw mixture codes.
Well, i dont think it's pulling air from the outside, the gasket is unbelieveably cushy and the weld may be ugly, but it's solid. So i think im gonna want to just go find me a new one. Damn, what're those goin for these days anyway?
1. mount the O2 sensor at least horizontal, preferably at a slight downward angle so condensation can drip out. at least that's what my aftermarket wideband says. 2. yes, depth does affect accuracy after a point. if it's in the exhaust stream it should be fine but if it's withdrawn from the exhaust stream it'll read slow and probably rich. I've heard of people using spark plug non-foulers on O2 sensors to trick the O2 sensor and save gas...supposedly. 3. you should give me the header since it's set up to fit a stupid 2wd :-D
I had to get the o2 modded on my 85 celica as well. The obx is a better made pacesetter header really. Also for the exaust flange gaskets I get oem or napa and copper coat them. Also threadlocker is a good idea as well
Well, if you mean that completely perpendicular to the ground will work for angle, then mine is fine. I think it could go deeper as well, but if it is deep enough, i don't know. Hahaha, it's good enough for MY stupid 2wd...for now I wouldnt wish this hell on anyone...ok maybe some people... What would you say, like 1/4"? Id say it's in there 1/8th tops right now. But i think that making sure that it has wiggle room where it is, and just getting a new one will solve the orange light on my dashboard.
What exactly was the mod? I used a brand that i was introduced to by a machinist my brother used for my head flange. It's called remflex, and i can rest assured, EVERYTHING is sealed. you have to feel these gaskets. The thing is that they dont make crushers for the cat. (too much variety i suppose) But i just bought a stock yota gasket, so we'll see how that one goes.
