Hey guys... Just wondering if any of you fine minitruckers have ever done a rack and pinion conversion on the front end. Im thinking about doing it for handeling purposes. Just thought i see if anyone had any thoughts. Thx
use the mk3 supra rack. while your at it take the spindles as well. they'll move your wheels forward a bit, but bolt on. the only problem with using them on the truck is the tie rod end is smaller.... but thats what the rack is for!
not trying to but in but how hard would it be to kill 2 birds with one stone i got manuel and want power and sense im throwing a 7m in there might as well squeeze some more parts in it woul that work or do you need the power steering to go off of bolt holes and all you know?
I know old dead thread.... but my topic of thought! Hey Burnzya! when you say a bit forward, what is a bit in your mind? I have a set of MK3 spindles and would like to do a rack, plus I am about to swap out my rusted upper and lower arms with some southern replacement parts, so since I was going to be in there anyway maybe.....
^^ what he said! mine already crossed a large body of water. I bet most truck's dont carry that privilege! lol
i wish they would allow us to modify/delete old posts on this forum... the supra rack won't work properly with the truck.. the geometry isn't right. the closest thing that i've found that will work properly is a 72ish ford pinto rack and pinion that is narrowed 5". they run about $330, and then you'll need to find outer tie rods to fit. the supra spindle moves the wheel about an 1/2" forward, also the lower ball joint doesn't fit quite right. i'm actually trying to find a balljoint that will work properly. i'm using them on my hilux.
Might have a solution to this... stabfab rack conversion kit by Jake Stabler posted Oct 23, 2019 at 3:59 PM
